The 61st New Brunswick Legislative session kicked off this week.<\/p>\n
Highlights from the throne speech include 10,000$ retentions payments for nurses, the implementation of a 3% rent cap effective February first, the removal of the provinces carbon adjuster on the price of gas and a 10% rebate on electricity bills.<\/p>\n
Accomplishing this will be an upcoming challenge as the province is anticipating a 92.1 deficit in the aftermath of the previous government.<\/p>\n
Some concerns in the new changes is the potential for landlords to apply for up to a 9% increase in rent for capital renovation expenditures, with little definition on what differentiates that term from routine maintenance and how the electricity rebate is supposed to help renters who pay their utilities indirectly.<\/p>\n
