This is not just for people who ask the questions, but\u00a0<strong>must<\/strong> be honoured by anyone who gets a question that feels off-kilter today. Respect the person asking the question, and give them an honest answer. Trust me: you&#8217;ll be there someday, too.<\/li>\n<li>It&#8217;s also\u00a0<strong>Hot Mulled Cider Day<\/strong>, which sounds like a great idea &#8212; aside from the ultra-humid weather. It&#8217;s also\u00a0<strong>Extra Virgin Olive Oil Day<\/strong>, which goes with everything, every day. Just don&#8217;t be fooled, because the acronym EVOO is\u00a0<em>not<\/em> a superhero.<\/li>\n<li>This was also\u00a0<strong>International Translation Day<\/strong>, so I have a feeling my guest from last week&#8217;s Word Feast, Jo-Anne Elder, may have had a cake.<\/li>\n<li>It&#8217;s the end of September, and after hearing the song\u00a0<em>Milk &amp; Cookies<\/em> by\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/thesteadyswagger.bandcamp.com\/\"><strong>The Steady Swagger<\/strong><\/a>, I had no choice. Technically, it&#8217;s a pre-Christmas song, but I think it was just what I needed today. So, I also decided to bring forth my interview from a few years ago with this fun band, just to give you more of a taste.<\/li>\n<li>I also felt we could use a little more hero, so I drew out the first featured subject of our\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.real-life-survivor.com\/\"><strong>Real Life Survivor<\/strong><\/a> series,\u00a0<strong>Louie Stravato<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Today is\u00a0<strong>Orange Shirt Day<\/strong>, remembering the story of young Phyllis, a survivor who was six when she had her orange shirt taken away from her the first day she was in Mission Residential School. Orange Shirt Day compels everyone to be reflective and commemorate the experiences of survivors, their families and communities. It also sets the stage for sincere dialogue about colonization and anti-Indigenous racism, as well as coming together in the spirit of piluwitahasuwawsuwakon. Piluwitahasuwawsuwakon is a Wolastoqey word that means, \u201callowing your thinking to change so that action will follow in a good way toward truth\u201d (Opolahsomuwehs\/Dr. Imelda Perley).<\/li>\n<li><strong>The Fiddlehead<\/strong>, Atlantic Canada&#8217;s International Literary Journal is celebrating its <strong>75th anniversary<\/strong> this year. Along with publishing a special fifth issue, they are hosting free online events featuring live readings from many of the authors who contributed to the anniversary issue. Over the final months of 2020, the series will highlight writers from across the country as they tour through the issue, beginning on the east coast and moving west. <b>Tonight\u00a0<\/b><strong>at 7pm EST <\/strong>to hear\u00a0Antony Di Nardo, Tanya Evanson, Michelle Porter, Gabriel Robichaud, \u00c9milie Turmel, Jo-Anne Elder, and a Q&amp;A with authors.<\/li>\n<li>The NBCCD Advanced Studio Free Guest Lecture series starts on\u00a0<strong>Thursday at noon<\/strong>, with\u00a0<strong>Tony Merzetti: The Accidental Filmmaker.<\/strong>\u00a0Tony will relate his story as an MBA graduate who turned his back on a traditional, safe, prosperous career in accounting or banking for the uncertain prospects of entering the world of film in New Brunswick in the 1980s.
