We are reinventing folk music again, making it what it once was, and what it never was.
My guests today are Chewie, Pi and Sergio of The Steady Swagger. This Montreal group combines elements of folk, jazz, sea shanty, rockabilly, klezmer and a dozen other traditions into a rockin’, rollickin’, foot-stompin’ music they’ve dubbed “whiskeybillie”. It’s part pirate crew, part jazz trio, part kitchen party, and all fun. We talked about how this band came about, the broad range of influences that go into it, and the reception across Canada and throughout Europe to their brand of music.
They’re playing in Fredericton on August 9 at 7:30pm at The Grimross Brewing Company. Opening for them is Speedy Johnson.
