History is composed of what we leave behind, and what we keep alive.
My guest today is Mary Louise McCarthy, a passionate historian looking to discover, preserve and share the history of black people in the Maritimes. Among her projects is the recognition and preservation of black graveyards. She joins me to share some of the successes and challenges she’s had, as well as discuss some of the ongoing celebrations of black history being organized this month by the UNB Arts Centre at Memorial Hall.
