Saturday June 2, 2013 Maritime Vinyl’s Brad Schofield and I had the chance to interview Halifax band This Ship about their current tour, new album release and who they’re listening to.
Later that evening they played an all-ages show at Gallery Connexion so I went down to check them out. Having seen them live for the first time in March during ECMA week I knew I would be in for a treat. When I arrived there This Ship already had the audience dancing and the band was at full sail. The crowd was really digging it, the kids formed a huge dancing circle and everyone was just having fun. About halfway through their set even the parents who had been hiding by the entrance had come over to check This Ship out. It’s hard to not be affected by their jangly rock sound. Keytars, tambourines, and sometimes even a glockenspiel? Bethany Fulde on lead guitar rocked it out while Jordan Stephens on bass is an absolute beast. Justin Wiles keeps the keytar sound new and current while Adam Martin hammered out the beats.
Collectively as a relatively new band the chemistry between them was tight. And even though they just released their new album “All The Star & Elements” we were treated to some new edgier tracks that will be part of an EP released the end of this summer.
