In just under a week in office, Premier Susan Holt has repealed the stipulation in New Brunswick’s medical services payment act that prevents coverage for surgical abortions performed outside hospitals.
Holt said it was a move that required no delays, is a negligible cost to the province and will ease minds of those who need the access, and thanking those in attendance for the announcement who laid the groundwork.
Health minister John Dornan added that there are those currently in situations that couldn’t wait longer for this change.
Holt stressed that the work is not done and that the province can expect supports to this new access within the first quarter of 2025.
