INTERVIEW with Kelty Apperson
Hello loyal listeners, big day today as we have Kelty Apperson on the phone with us. For those who don’t know Kelty, there’s a long list of accolades we could list but the key points are that she’s:
- A Former STU Women’s Hockey Captain
- The 2016 AUS MVP
- A 2017 Silver Medallist for Canada at the Winter Universiade (It’s like the Olympics for University Students)
- A 6th Round Pick and Rookie playing with the CWHL’s Calgary Inferno
That’s right, we’re joined by an honest to goodness professional hockey player.
We talked about many a thing, mainly what brought her to St. Thomas, what it was like to reach such highs with a University program. What being drafted was like, and how it’s different being a pro. We also asked some fun things like what road trips to China are like because the CWHL has a partnership with two Chinese teams.
We also touch briefly on the very small salaries afforded to Women’s Professionals and Kelty teaches us what the Olympic process is like for the Women who are over in Peyongchang.
After we’re off the phone with Kelty, Sean and I dicuss the racist remarks lobbed at Devante Smith-Pelly, and Handicap the Men’s and Women’s Hockey Finals at the Olympics.
I also admit to being willing to make a bet I’m glad I didn’t because I’d be out $200.
Thanks for listening,
K
