In a brief meeting of Fredericton City Council Tuesday night, councilors voted in favor of a highway usage permit for the construction of a new non-motorized boat launch.
The city recently launched the River Access Initiative back in May, which aims to create a stronger network for these activities in the Lower Saint John River Valley Region, which contains almost 200 km of usable routes.
This newest launch site is along the Nashwaak River where the Penniac Bridge used to run across before it was torn down in the Summer of 2022.
The permit for the new site will run 10 years less a day, beginning retroactively from April 1st of this year to March 31st, 2034. With construction expected to begin in shortly.
