There are many paths to writing. Some just do it, and hope that their experience tells them enough to make the words work. Others go the academic route, intensely learning all about the structure and practice of writing and then throw their words through these filters.
My guests today are Alex and Steve, two MA students at UNB who are also story editors with QWERTY Magazine, a literary magazine with long history produced at UNB. They’re here to talk about the upcoming QWERTY Reads event at the Wilser’s Room on Thursday, April 14 at 7:30pm — but we end up talking a lot about the process of earning your MA, where academic writing meets creative passion, and different routes to producing your masterpiece.
Music today:
- The gravelly-voiced troubadour Al Lukas reminds us that sometimes, we need to do before we overthink ourselves, with Don’t Think Twice from the album Matches.
- Love can be expressed by payin’ the bills in beautiful ways, or so sing Ariel Sharratt & Matthias Kom with their song Every Song I Sing Is For You from their album Don’t Believe The Hyperreal.
- And appropros of nothing, great people are cool, so She’s Cool is for all the great women out there. (By Jordan Patterson from his album The Back On Track Recording Project.)
