The Lunchbox Interview: The History of Palestine

Posted on 2024-05-16 by encaf1 Posted in The Lunchbox

How much do you really know about the situation that has been unfolding for a long time in Palestine?

My guests today are three people with a much better, deeper and more personal understanding of the complicated and terrible history that has lead to the current situation between Palestine and Israel. My guests, in addition to the other organizations they have been involved with, are all organizers with Fredericton Palestine Solidarity as well.

Chantelle Paiu is Palestinian-Canadian, and a vocal activist for social justice. She is previous chair of the Ontario Palestinian Rights Association, and continues her dedicated work in local Palestinian advocacy within her new community in New Brunswick. With a career in the non-profit sector focused on environmental and food security issues, Chantelle is passionate about engaging youth, fostering curiosity, and tuning into compassion. She co-founded the Conscious Birth Collective, providing support for women during pregnancy, birth, and postpartum, while also organizing events for women at all stages of life. Now a new mother, Chantelle finds joy in her family life while remaining committed to creating positive change in her community and beyond.
Tracy Glynn is an activist-scholar based in Fredericton on unceded W?last?kwiyik territory. Her activism and scholarship is focused on supporting communities affected by resource extraction, migration and border policies, and inadequate health care access. Tracy is the National Director of Operations and Projects for the Canadian Health Coalition. She also holds a regular teaching appointment in the Environment & Society program and School of Social Work at STU, and teaches sociology courses at STU and at UNB.
Karen Pearlston is a cis-gendered Jewish lesbian, an anti-Zionist, and a long-time activist in feminist, queer, anti-capitalist, and anti-imperialist/anti-colonial solidarity movements. She recently retired from the Faculty of Law at UNB, where her research focused on legal history, and on gender, sexuality and law. She is currently active with Fredericton Palestine Solidarity and the New Brunswick chapter of Independent Jewish Voices.
