The Stogies Restore My Faith In Rock N’ Roll, One Show At A Time
The Stogies Played The Capital January 16, 2015
No amount of weather could keep Halifax’s The Stogies out of Fredericton Friday night. The Capital assembled a great night of rock January 16th with The Stogies, Brother, and Fredericton’s newest ensemble, Mrs. Hippie.
Mrs. Hippie contains members of Brothers, The Creaks and Burning Coast, melting all their sounds together to create a new tone of old rock mixed with aggressive tempos and guitar solos. Only their second liver performance, their cover of The Stooges “I Wanna Be Your Dog” instantly won the crowd over and had everyone talking about it after the set asking one another “who were those guys?”.
Brother is an old Fredericton favourite. With some new members in the mix their punky rock banter and catch synthed songs had me wondering why I haven’t seen these guys play live before?
The Stogies took the stage a little before 1am and instantly had the crowd engaged, all of us rocking our heads in unison. Playing song after song off their newly released full-length album Hoot, the crowd was sinking deeper and deeper into the music. People were jumping up and down, some beat their feet to the heavy drumming, and some inconspicuously air guitared to the sick riffs and solos engulfing the small bar.
You can purchase a copy of their album here, and be sure to check them out the next time they’re on tour in your town. – Bondo
