The University of New Brunswick Reds fell just short of completing a trifecta of upsets as they hosted the Atlantic University Sport men’s soccer playoffs this past weekend at their home field the BMO Centre.
UNB knocked off the second-ranked Memorial Sea-Hawks 3-2 in their semi-final on Friday, just a day after upsetting the third-ranked Saint Mary’s Huskies. Sending them to the final against the defending champs the St. Francis Xavier X-Men and clinching a birth in the U Sports National Championship being held at Ontario Tech University in Oshawa, Ontario.
Then in the final, the Reds were topped by a late goal by STFX captain Kyle Cordeiro with six minutes to go in extra time, falling just short of capturing the title.
Have a listen to get the team’s reaction to the highs and lows of their playoff run.
