The Crazy Train Episode #CXI

Posted on 2017-05-23 by Chris Waddell Posted in The Crazy Train

Em and Tom from Fredericton’s very own ‘The Green Lung Grinders’ popped on air to join me at the start of episode #111. Albeit their 5th release ‘Toke Signals’ came out a few months ago, it was time to have the gang back on and to get the scoop on the album and what they’ve been up to and what they are planning!

In Hour II, I paid homage to one of my favorite ‘Grunge’ era vocalists. Chris Cornell passed away this last week leaving the World’s Rock/Metal/Music community in shock. Particularly trouble is the notion that three of the Grunge leading musicians lost their lives; Kurt Cobain, Layne Staley and Cornell.

Here’s the play list for episode #111:

Hour I: Crazy Train – Ozzy| Pope Smear – The Green Lung Grinders| The Green Lung Grinders Interview| Organ Donair – The Green Lung Grinders| Super Novae – Red Usurper| Vampiric Blood – Engage The Threat| Born To Kill – Beyond Eternal| Nothing Survives – Spinesplitter *NEW!| Bolshevik – Dischord

Hour II: Hands All Over – Soundgarden| Loud Love – Soundgarden| Drawing Flies – Soundgarden| Show Yourself – Mastodon| Gotham – Kobra & The Lotus| Beyond Omega – Oracle| Let The Killing Begin – Arch Enemy| The Necropolis Junction – Johnny Truant| Screaming For Vengeance – Judas Priest

Upcoming shows:

THIS Saturday, May 27th – At People’s Pub – 1 Milltown Blvd St. Stephen NB – Saint John NB’s Rifium Fredericton’s I Monolith and The Wasteland Zombies return to People’s Pub to ROCK the walls off, if you thought last weekend’s Metal show at People’s was epic, just wait ’til you get your nuts rocked off this weekend! Album Review: Full Of Hell – Trumpeting Ecstasy

Posted on 2017-05-23 by Johnny James Posted in General, General Distortion, Music Reviews

The fuzzy noise of Full of Hell has the stage all to itself once again, morphing into a relentless barrage of riffs and songs unlike anything anyone has ever seen from them. “Trumpeting Ecstasy” is the first full length solo release from the grindcore quartet since 2013 and is making even their most hardcore fans realize that it has been far too long. Clocking in at just over 23 minutes of running time, this is a record for fans of the band both new and old, showcasing the best of their previous and future sound.

“Their riffs are more articulate yet come across more intense. The shifts are as dynamic as ever but with a bit less noise emphasis this time around. The focus is more on death metal and grind, with the hardcore parts a bit less often but as effective as ever. This band just doesn’t seem to let up and seem like they’ll keep getting better and better.” – Mike Belliveau, Guitarist of Fifty Feet of Earth

The first half of the album is a five-punch combo that kicks the door open on their refined sound. The album’s lead single “Deluminate” sets an almost unsustainable pace for the listener, pummeling them with menacing leads and black tongued vocals. This shifts rapidly into “Branches of Yew” and “Bound Sphinx”, tracks which stay true to the traditional grindcore structure yet stand out with a strong saturation of sludgy death grind and doom inspired breakdowns. “The Cosmic Vein” follows that up with a grand showcase of the range of vocalist’s Dylan Walker and Sam DiGristine, which are accompanied by more dark melodies and a brief indulgence into the realm of black metal. “Digital Prison” lands the final blow of side A with another classic burst of trademark demonic noise.

The heavyweight tracks of this album come out swinging on side B. “Crawling Back to God” and “Fractured Quartz” roll out some of the best guitar parts written by the band to date, opting for complementing dynamics as opposed to piling on the noise. “Gnawed Flesh” and “Ashen Mesh” further this motif with cohesive shredding that perfectly transition into brutal slams. Trumpeting Ecstasy”, the album’s title track, tips the scale on both ends of the bands spectrum, casting a wide lens of the bands roots and the parallel that is their experimentation and growth. The album concludes with “At The Cauldron’s Bottom”, which embodies the metamorphosis of the band in the present moment. The longest composition on the record, the band once again hits that dark vein of their music with vile root notes coated in slimy vocals. The somber accents of the song are consistent from its aggressive start to it’s powerful conclusion of slow chugging and distorted drums, dragging out the final bars to cement the record’s impression on all who listen.

Injustice 2 Review

Posted on 2017-05-19 by ICE Posted in Video Game Reviews

Netherealm and Warner Brothers bring’s us a sequel to Injustice gods among us, Injustice 2; Does this fighting game compete as a number one contender or a chump? let’s find out.

Injustice 2 takes place after the events of One still feeling the effects of Superman turning evil after the joker got to him, but this time it seems that Gorilla Grodd and Brainiac are behind the evil plans this time. Batman and the rest of the Justice League (minus Superman) team up together to take down Brainiac as he attempts to destroy the world. During the duration of the story, we see new characters come in to play like SuperGirl, Cyborg, Harley Quinn and so much more. Progressing through some of the heroes we see become overturned or brainwashed if you will and join Brainiac in his mission to destroy Earth just like he did Crypton. Sometimes in the story line, you will have a choice of two heroes you want to fight as it’s only at the end though that it makes a difference of the storyline if you choose to play as Batman or Superman. The ending is a bit different than most fighting games because we see the team divide a little bit, in the end, depending what happens to Brainiac while Batman is about bringing him to justice, Superman wants him dead.

The gameplay is just like the previous one and Mortal Kombat now that is good and bad at the same time. Some of the heroes fight flat on the ground while others float in the air which well can be somewhat annoying, I get it you can fly do not really need to emphasize on it. The fighting in this game is not the greatest either the moves list is a bit lackluster when it comes to variety, and one thing that really grinds my gears about this game is I do no like having to enter the entire button combination before it will actually do the special move I just wish it could be more react quicker when I do the combo move like in Tekken or Dead or Alive.

Injustice 2 is a great game, however missing some of my favorite characters DC universe, the story was short, but gave you the opportunity to play as everyone it was short and sweet. The customization in this game is deeper than any other fighting game I have played in my life and it is something I can appreciate and hope to see more of. This is your normal fighting game with a story, Arcade, Online, and Multiverse mode. I hope there is a third one with a bit more characters, better and more responsive combos.

Injustice 2: 7/10

Telltales Guardians of the Galaxy Episode 1 review

Posted on 2017-05-18 by ICE Posted in Video Game Reviews

Telltale games takes another critically acclaimed franchise under their wing (Guardians of the Galaxy) bringing us what seems to be the best storytelling in the video game industry. In episode 1 you begin on the guardian’s ship and are looking to take down Thanos the galaxies most notorious criminal, you get shot down on a strange planet in the kree district which Thanos has stolen an artifact from. The Guardians continue to pursue Thanos through which seems to be a temple of some sort, from there the Guardians have a very intense battle and end up killing Thanos with a gun that Rocket claims he made. After killing Thanos it was time to celebrate with drinks and social gatherings at a bar, having conversations with your colleagues and just having a good time, waking up from having too much to drink you and your crew are trying to decide what to do with the corpse of Thanos; you have two options of taking it to a collector who will pay you top dollar on Rockets recommendation or take it to the nova corps on Gamora’s recommendation. Whatever decision you make Hala will ambush your team and take the artifact you retrieved from Thanos, you then pursue her to her ship with either Drax or Gamora as you get there you will have a confrontation conversation with Hala which ends up getting Star-Lord stabbed and being seriously injured and ends up on the verge of death, but this artifact has some weird powers and his mother somehow brings him back to life even though his mother is dead.
