On this episode, I screw up song names, miss out on playing a few tracks I intended, and otherwise barely manage to hold on! But, flying solo, all the trends and segments get pushed aside as I try to stay entertaining. It worked! Probably. At least you still got a really good song of the week from Beneath the Grid, even if I managed to introduce it as A Brilliant Lie instead. Both bands are fantastic and you should give them a listen anyway.
A lot of great Canadian artists show up on this episode, and also, I brag about how many people were messaging me on Facebook because that’s the kind of person I am! Props to Shane – we’ll get you live on the show at some point soon! Maybe even next week!

CQ: Everybody compared inventions for ages as “the best thing since sliced bread”. Tell me a modern equivalent: what’s an invention in the last 20 years that seems relatively simple, but which has made the greatest impact to daily life?

How do you condense hundreds of ideas into a single piece of theatre?
That’s the question Isabelle and Bianca of Thèâtre La Cicogne are asking themselves now. I first spoke to the pair back in November of last year about the beginning of their adventure, The Identity Journey Project. They canvassed hundreds of youth between the ages of 15 and 30 all over the province to ask them about how they identify as New Brunswickers. Now, they’re transforming the results into a play.
We talk about the task ahead, the challenge of creating a 4-language play, and the mentoring from a similar project in Quebec.

When’s the last time you challenged yourself to a really fundamental life change? How about today?
Roger Jean is going to become a vegan. That’s the 12-week challenge he’s embarking on, for health, for a challenge and for learning. He joins me today to talk about the hopes, fears and possible food he’ll be looking at. He’s doing the journey in public, as well, blogging here on the CHSR website as well as talking food every Thursday on Rosie Morning at 7:30am.
Follow his journey and let’s root for him!

The more you know about something, the less sure you are that you really know what that something is.
What is the difference between an opera and a Broadway musical? Is it possible to be both? My guest today is Adrian Park, host of the long-running classical music and opera program on Sunday afternoons called Diversions. Every summer, he extends his program by an hour to fit in a series of full operas. This summer, he’s taking a look at productions from North America, many of which straddle the line between operas and musicals.
To demonstrate, he brought a sample of Treemonisha, an opera by Scott Joplin, well-known African-American composer and performer better know for his ragtime music. We hear the last song of the opera, A Real Slow Drag.
You can find Diversions every Sunday at 4pm on CHSR! The summer opera series begins July 3.
