Suspicious fire near Hartland leads to drug seizure
Officials in a small community near Hartland are investigating after a suspected arson last week. The fire happened on Thursday in Ashland and involved the burning of a two-storey home. That fire also lead to the seizure of around 1,000 methamphetamine pills. Two males, aged 21 and 24, were arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance and remain in custody until Tuesday for a bail hearing. The fire in Ashland has been the 10th suspicious fire since July. Other fires include other homes, businesses, vehicles and a covered bridge.
N.B. boy dies after long battle with cancer
A Cap-Pele boy who was diagnosed with a rare cancer at just 22 months old has passed away. Hugo Robichaud was battling neuroblastoma, a childhood cancer that causes tumours to form over different areas of the body. Robichaud spent nearly two years in and out of the Sloan-Kettering Cancer Centre in New York and recently returned to Moncton. He leaves behind an older brother and his parents.
Fire claims home in northern N.B.
A family of four are homeless after a fire this weekend in northern New Brunswick. Fire crews were called to the home near Durham Centre, between Bathurst and Campbellton, at 5 a.m. Sunday morning. The family of four were away in Fredericton at the time of the blaze. The Canadian Red Cross says that the family of four was able to stay with relatives in the area. Fire officials have not released a cause of the blaze.
