Posted on 2019-04-10 by Bondo Posted in Homemade Jams

There’s something about Newfoundland artists, how even though you just met them for the first time you feel like you’ve known them forever.  So when Quote The Raven stopped into Homemade Jams before their show at The Tipsy Muse it felt more like a case of catching up rather than an interview with a touring band.

Listen in to the conversation and hear a few live performances too!

The Lunchbox Interview: Rowan Miller (NotaBle Acts 2019)

Posted on 2019-04-05 by encaf1 Posted in The Lunchbox

We should be all encouraged to share our stories — and perhaps transform some of them into stories told through unconventional theatre.

My guest today is Rowan Miller, the Administrative Manager of Notable Acts. For the past 18 years, Notable Acts has challenged playwrights from across the province to create new theatre productions. With a focus on supporting artistic growth in theatre — particularly in new playwrights — Notable Acts has inspired numerous folks to create innovate, local and amazing theatre, and helped them transform their abilities.

Notable Acts is currently looking for playwrights in its contest phase, which ends on Shakespeare’s birthday of April 23rd. Following that, the winning plays will be workshopped and developed to appear in their festival in late July.

Billie is holding a protest on April 9th at noon in front of the Legislature, to call attention to her situation and seek to resolve it for herself, and for others who might be going through a similar difficulty.

HitG 013: Dynamic Combat

Posted on 2019-03-29 by encaf1 Posted in Head In The Game

What does a combat look like? Is it two people standing stock still, swinging swords like some sort of prehistoric 2-bit video game, or is it moving all over the place, jumping for the chandelier, carving a Z into a doublet, leaping off the table to balance onto a chair while parrying three knights?

In this episode, we’re looking at making combat more dynamic.

Featuring: Mark, Don, Anita, Chris

The Lunchbox Interview: TUNB’s “The Country Wife”

Posted on 2019-03-29 by encaf1 Posted in The Lunchbox

Our view of history is often wrong, and sometimes it’s important to remember that in the most conservative of times, people were still having — and conspiring about — sex.

My guests today are Len Falkenstein (Director of Drama, UNB; aka “Grand Poobah of Theatre in Fredericton”) and two actors, Kate (“Mrs. Fidget”) and Bhavrya (“Mr. Fidget”), from the upcoming Theatre UNB staging of The Country Wife. They join me to talk about the surprising sexual comedy of the Restoration period, how everything is a double-entendre in this play, and about being aware of timing precisely for another character’s aside.

The Country Wife is Theatre UNB’s final production of the season. It opens April 3, and runs until April 6, on stage at Memorial Hall at UNB each night at 7:30pm.
