The Art of Love
How do you write a love song or take a wedding photograph without resorting to cliches? How does architecture shape the love life of a Parisienne? And can comedy clean up its act enough for the 21st century dating world? On this Valentine Day set-up, hosts Jerry-Faye Flatt and Caitlin Dutt talk to those creative types who make love when they make art.

Then, we’ll take a listen to a comedic commentary about a tinder match. The Lunchbox Interview: Alex Pannier & Devi Rockwell (The Gravitational Pull of Bernice Trimble)

Posted on 2019-02-19 by encaf1 Posted in The Lunchbox

Who are we when our memories leave us — or are broken up into pieces like actors on a stage all performing monologues with words missing?

My guests today are Alex Pannier and Devin Rockwell, two students in UNB’s drama program who are staging a production of The Gravitational Pull of Bernice Trimble as part of their degree. The two are familiar faces on the stage, having acted in numerous theatre productions at UNB, with Bard in the Barracks and elsewhere, but here we talk about their experience behind-the-scenes, taking a co-directorial role in this production.

The Gravitational Pull of Bernice Trimble opens February 21 at Memorial Hall at 7:30pm and runs until February 23.

RFYL Episode – SomebodyEP056

Posted on 2019-02-15 by Matt Nightingale Posted in Run For Your Life!

Run For Your Life! – the psychobilly rock show of zombie sharks

Another Hallmark Holiday down the line. Do they have Family Day cards? Nobody’s getting one if they have them. They probably have them.

ALL I HAVE for you is a bunch of music played in some sort of linear sequence because that is how time works. I can’t control time yet, but I can control what you listen to throughout the hour and for future hours if you download the podcast and put it on repeat.

I guess you control that other part.

Alright, that’s enough from me.

Down to the Bottom – Dorothy
Higher and Higher – Sleep Machine
No Release – Rockyard
Sanctuary – Kill Matilda
Legends Never Die – The Castor Troys

The Lunchbox Interview: “Newsies: The Musical”

Posted on 2019-02-15 by encaf1 Posted in The Lunchbox

A story about how people in working classes oppose negatively-impacting unwanted changes by greedy corporation owners? Yeah, I can see how that might be quite relevant today.

My guests today are Allie Jeffrey and Cameron Patterson, two of the performers in the upcoming STU Musical Theatre company’s production of Newsies: The Musical. Set in the turbulent fight between street-level newspaper sellers and rate-hiking newspaper corporations, the musical promises to delight. Allie and Cameron talk about their journey through musical theatre to this production, what this play means to them, and their excitement to show it to an audience.

Newsies: The Musical opens on February 20 at the Black Box Theatre at St Thomas University, and runs until February 24.

The Lunchbox Interview: Lori Quick & Marie Maltais (#plasticfreeUNB)

Posted on 2019-02-11 by encaf1 Posted in The Lunchbox

Just stop for a moment and realize: we have far more plastic than we ever might need, so how do we stop?

My guests today are Lori Quick (Artistic & Graphics Coordinator) and Marie Maltais (Director) from the UNB Art Centre to talk about their new project: #plasticfreeUNB. The project is looking for your images of plastic in your environment, to bring awareness to our over-use of plastics as well as our inadequate management of plastic waste. On World Water Day in March, they will use your photos in conjunction with a manufactured sculpture to use art to bring awareness. They join us to talk about the related problems of plastic and humans, and what shape the project will take.

You are encouraged to add your own pictures to the mix! Just take a picture of plastic in your environment, and post them to Instagram with the hashtag #plasticfreeUNB. Anyone can participate, whether you are associated with the school or not.
