The Lunchbox Interview: MP Matt Decourcey (Sharing Out Stories: Citizenship Reaffirmation Ceremony)

Posted on 2019-03-19 by encaf1 Posted in The Lunchbox

It is, perhaps, all too easy to take for granted what being a Canadian is; both a reminder and a celebration of that can help us grow as a country of communities, which in turn celebrates and integrates the strength and exciting opportunities of our incredible diversity.

My guest today is Fredericton MP Matt Decourcey, who took some time out of a very busy day of budget announcements in Ottawa to talk about the upcoming Citizenship Reaffirmation Ceremony, which is subtitled “Sharing Our Stories”. He discussed how this idea took hold last year, and his hopes for our chance to come together as one community across Canada, seeing our diversity as strength in the wake of divisive politics and rising anti-immigration sentiment and action across the world.

Sharing Our Stories: a Citizen Reaffirmation Ceremony welcomes everyone to the Richard J Currie Centre on UNB Campus on March 25 at 6pm.

The Lunchbox Interview: Mark Kleyn (Understanding Performance Anxiety for Musicians)

Posted on 2019-03-07 by encaf1 Posted in The Lunchbox

Many of us experience nervousness before performing activities in front of an audience, and musicians no less; it is important to understand it and build the tools you need to manage and overcome your anxiety.

My guest today is Mark Kleyn, the Conservatory Coordinator for the UNB Centre of Musical Arts. He’s offering a four-week workshop on Understanding Performance Anxiety for Musicians to help performers learn more about how to identify, understand and ultimately cope with difficulties related to the performance of their art for others. We discuss some of the signs and symptoms of anxiety, who would benefit from this workshop, and some of the ways he wants to help people interpret their own issues and redirect nervous energy.

The Understanding Performance Anxiety workshop is offered at UNB through the music conservancy, and runs on Monday nights starting on March 11. You must register for the course before March 8, and there is a $99 (+HST) fee for the course. To register, visit the CEL workshop page or contact Mark Kleyn directly via email (conserv@unb.ca) or phone (405-458-7259).

The Lunchbox Interview: Richie Young (Turn Back On Your Radio)

Posted on 2019-03-07 by encaf1 Posted in The Lunchbox

Some people play music; others live it.

My guest today is Richie Young, a local musician who moves from rock to blues with grace. His latest solo blues album, Turn Back On Your Radio, is out now both in digital form and CD, and he’ll be hitting the road this summer for an intense tour. He joins me to talk about where this album came from and his impressive (full!) collection of harmonicas, as well as perform a cover of a classic blues song and one from the album.

Check out Richie Young’s latest album, Turn Back On The Radio, on Bandcamp.
