Testing For Echo – Episode 61 – Bet There Are a Couple You Don’t Know? – Orig. Air Date October 12, 2024

Posted on 2024-10-12 by Tim Scammell Posted in Barry Awards, chsr, Current Shows, General, Media, Music, Testing For Echo

Hi again folks. I trust all is well with you. Welcome to Testing For Echo Episode 61 on CHSR FM 97.9 in Fredericton and around the world. I’m your host Tim Scammell.

I’m going to bet that there is going to be a couple of tracks today that you have never ever heard before. There’s a couple that I had never heard until they were forwarded to me. And I love them.

I’ve never been a huge fan of Country and Western music.

That being said though I do have to clarify something.

In our house, Johnny Cash and Stompin’ Tom Connors are gods. My family loves them. So they’re an exception.

So, Ella Campbell of Fredericton recently sent me a brand new track and do you know what? I LOVE this young lady’s voice!

It’s fantastic! You’ll hear what I mean.

“The World of Music, One Song at a Time”

Episode Song List

  1. Ella Campbell – Rollercoaster
  2. Bryan Ferry – Sympathy For The Devil
  3. Soundgarden – Mailman
  4. Sunday Cannons – Slower Train of Thought
  5. ABC – How To Be a Millionaire Bond St. Mix
  6. Yes – Rhythm of Love – Rhythm Mix
  7. Genesis – Anyway
  8. Triumph – Troublemaker
  9. SAGA – How Long
  10. JC and The Buddagong – Walks Of Life

Interview: Andrew MacLean (Backyard History)

Posted on 2024-10-11 by encaf1 Posted in The Lunchbox

For too long, an attitude has persisted that “nothing ever happens or happened in the Maritimes”. Thankfully, there are people who demonstrate that isn’t true.

My guest today is Andrew MacLean, author, historian and storyteller, who has written series of books, newspaper columns and podcasts about bits of forgotten lore about the Maritimes, all under the title of Backyard History. He joins me to talk about the origins of this fascination and work, some of the stories he’s uncovered, and the upcoming third book, Backyard History: Rebellious Women in the Maritimes.

Andrew MacLean’s third book is in pre-orders now, and he will be giving a talk on Thursday, October 17 at 7:00 pm in Room 102, Tilley Hall at UNB on famous English author Juliana Horatia Ewing.

He joins me to talk about the fascinating complexities of modern human mobility, from “micro-mobility” options to mass transit, as well as the upcoming research discussion event, UNB Mobility Day.

Interview: Kate Weaver (Evil Dead: The Musical)

Posted on 2024-10-10 by encaf1 Posted in The Lunchbox

Few things are as magical as a musical with a splash zone!

My guest today is Kate Weaver, the director of the upcoming Branch Out Productions presentation of Evil Dead: The Musical. She joins me to talk about her trip full circle from being in a production to now directing one, the special care one needs to take when building a musical which as much special effects and fake blood as this one, and the special place that the Evil Dead franchise plays.

Evil Dead: The Musical opens at the Capital Exhibit Centre on October 17 at 7:30pm, and runs until October 19. Tickets are $30 for general admission, but if you want to be up close and covered in fake blood, the splash zone costs $50 — but comes with a t-shirt saying “I survived the Evil Dead”.

My guest today is Terry Graff, a mixed-media artist who combines whatever he can get a hold of into complex, multi-layered, challenging artwork. He joins me to talk about an exhibition of his work, filling one gallery with works from his Avian Cyborgs series and the other gallery with a combination of different series, including his Pandemic Horror Series. Terry joins me to talk about his long history of art-making from combining found objects and found ideas, and his constant inspiration.

The Lunchbox Interview: Don Hannah, Natasha MacLellan (“Greetings”)

Posted on 2024-09-26 by encaf1 Posted in The Lunchbox

What if I told you that you have the chance to eavesdrop on a conversation spanning a century? What if I told you it would come to you as real mail?

My guests today are Don Hannah (playwright & author) and Natasha MacLellan (Artistic Director of TNB). They join me to talk about Greetings, the latest theatrical production from TNB. Or, to give it’s full title: Greetings: One Hundred Years of Family Life — birthdays, funerals, wars, and feuds; engagements, breakups, elopements, elections, school days, and holidays; tears, queers, debts, and secrets; I love yous, I hate yous… and all the news in between — in Twelve Letters.

You can purchase “tickets” for this “event” right now until the end of October, and the letters will start being sent to recipient later in the year. The event is limited, however, so be sure to act earlier to get a chance to experience it.
