Interview: Nate & the Busy Boys/Katie Hamill (“Setting The Stage”)

We’re thrilled to be able to coordinate an opportunity for local performers to get stage time, mentorship and support.

My guests today are Nate Murchison and Paul Hayes of local band Nate & The Busy Boys, and Katie Hamill, a CHSR staff member working on organizing local events. They join me to talk about the origins and enthusiasm of Nate & The Busy Boys, as well as the upcoming Setting The Stage concert and mentorship opportunity.

Setting The Stage takes place on February 27 at The Cap, with doors open by 6:30pm and the show to start at 7pm. It features performance by Nate & The Busy Boys, OLiwu7, and Katie Murchison, the latter of which also benefitted from a mentorship and support program. The program and concert were funded through RBC and were created in conjunction with the The Canadian Live Music Association.

Interview With Puppeteer Ingrid Hansen

Our guest today was Ingrid Hansen, a voice actress and puppeteer, currently on tour through Canada with her very own Puppet shows. Hansen has amassed lots of experience as a puppeteer over the years while working on various project, such as the last two season of the Fraggle Rock reboot.

Ingrid will be preforming two of her show’s, Epidermis Circus and The Baby Tyler Show at The Fredericton Playhouse on February 15th. The Baby Tyler Show will be at 2pm, followed by Epidermis Circus at 7:30.

Interview: Thomas Hodd (TNB Presents “O’Brien”)

History is often just a list of facts and events and actors, but to better understand it, it may need other things that fiction brings best.

My guest today is Thomas Hodd, the Saint John playwright behind an upcoming Theatre NB production of O’Brien. He joins me to talk about the origins of this play, a story which he first encountered when he was a youth working at a museum.

O’Brien opens on March 5 at TNB’s Open Space Theatre and runs until the 8th, at which time it begins a tour of the province before returning back to the Open Space Theatre for it’s last performance on March 16. See the TNB website for more details.

My guests today are Len Falkenstein (Director of Drama at UNB, Grand Poobah of Theatre in Fredericton), Abhi/Naga Abhinav Sujal Kamireddy (“Mustard”) and Maham Raza (“Thai”). They join me to talk about the upcoming TheatreUNB presentation of Kat Sandler’s Mustard. In this serious-comedic play, the young adult Thai faces challenges which make her question her relationships, particularly with her imaginary friend, Mustard. They join me to talk about finding their character’s centre, staging a surreal world, and making time for unexpected audience reactions.

Mustard runs February 5 through 8 at 7:30pm nightly at UNB’s Memorial Hall.

My guest today is Charlotte Toner, a BScEM (Bachelor’s in Science, Environment Management) wildlife conservation honour’s student who’s senior research project is looking at the behavioural patterns of a species at risk, a grassland bird called the bobolink. She joins me to talk about her path to discovery her passion for the sciences, her specific research into this intriguing, far-ranging migratory bird and her plans to continue this research into an accellerated MScEM degree.
