Run For Your Life! – the psychobilly rock show of zombie sharks

On this week’s episode, we are almost scary but otherwise the same as usual while providing new tracks for your listening pleasure. See? I can provide. I even used the word “provide” three times in the past three sentences.

I have nothing further to say that’s witty, though I do recommend that you chase after these new releases because artists should be paid for their work. Do it! Provide!

Get In The Van / Industry Woes – We Hunt Buffalo

The Lunchbox Interview: Alex Rioux (Fruit Machine)

Posted on 2018-11-01 by encaf1 Posted in The Lunchbox

It takes a real artist to take the ugliness of the world and turn it into beautiful art, art that might still be ugly but has meaning.

My guest today is Alex Rioux, director and co-creator of Fruit Machine, a movement-based theatre piece looking at the attitudes, turmoil and impact of the RCMP’s questionable practices that targeted the LGBTQ+ community during the 50’s and 60’s. Alex joined me to talk about what inspired him to create this piece, the process of creating physical theatre, and the impact the material had on him.

Fruit Machine, along with another Solo Chicken Productions production, PIG, will be shown on November 1 at 7:30pm at the Open Space Theatre, 55 Whiting Road.

Run For Your Life! – the psychobilly rock show of zombie sharks

Okay, so who’s been counting the amount of times “Monster Mash” has played on the radio this month? Also, who has Christmas decorations up already?

Ugh.

Anyway, we have a bunch of great stuff to celebrate today. The first is that both We Hunt Buffalo AND Striker released albums today, so go get those. We Hunt Buffalo has “Head Smashed In”, available on the Bandcamps, and Striker has “Pay To Win”, available on Amazon and major music retailers everywhere. These albums are awesome and you believe me because why the hell else would you be reading some jerk’s music blog?

Secondly, there are STILL MORE RELEASES coming out this year that I’m waiting on, because 2018 has proven to be fantastic for music.

And third, WHY IS OCTOBER ALREADY OVER. Somebody stop time from passing because I’m sick of it.

Playlist:
Julian – Starbenders
Every Breath – 1989
Our Song – Diemonds
Red-Light Revolver – The Red Coats
On The Run / Pay To Win – Striker (CAN)

Run For Your Life! – the psychobilly rock show of zombie sharks

Sorry for skipping an episode but when you get miserably sick there’s a barely acceptable level of “nasal” that one can provide for the radio. So, here we are again, back to the bat and ready to provide all the tracks you need to get through the work week and/or work weekend.

We continue to cover new releases, make random assumptions as to what everyone’s weekend plans are, and otherwise refer to ourselves as a royal “We” at the beginning of this sentence.

What It Takes – Dead Sara [Official]
Down to the Bottom – Dorothy
Dawn to Dusk – Kilmore
I Miss – Diemonds
Close Your Eyes / Echo – A Primitive Evolution
Kick It Around – the black frame spectacle

The Lunchbox Interview: Sarah Sarty, Penny Heather, Alison Veino (SHE)

Posted on 2018-10-16 by encaf1 Posted in The Lunchbox

Art provides us with a way to reflect ourselves in ways that cannot normally be seen, only experienced. Since it can be shared, it is a form of telepathy.

My guests today are three of the artists involved in a new exhibition called SHE: A Contemporary Art Show Inspired by Femininity. It opens Friday, October 21 at 5pm in the gallery in Suite 260 downtown at 384 Queen St. Joining me were Sarah Sarty (photographer), Penny Heather (painter/artist) and Alison Veino (painter). They share their enthusiastic inspiration for exploring multiple varied aspects of “femininity” in different medium.

The exhibition is open all weekend, and includes a silent, blind auction. Visit to see stunning art, and even take some home with you!
