Mind Your Own Business // What You Need To Know Before You Release Your Music

Posted on 2018-07-12 by Bondo Posted in Mind Your Own Business

You’ve written some great music, it’s now recorded and finally ready to be released into the world! So, now what?

The idea of releasing music can be daunting. How do you effectively get it into people’s ears?

Episode 001‘s guest is Halifax publicist, musician, radio host and label owner Trevor Murphy! Trevor gives tips on the additional pieces needed to go along with your release (artwork, photos, bio) and shares how to properly set yourself up with the basics.

Whether you like it or not, the music business is a business. This podcast series is meant to help the emerging musician navigate the music industry by talking to those in the local scene who are actually “doing it”.

I tried really, really hard not to complain about the heat on this week’s episode. Spoiler: I failed.

So instead, enjoy a bunch of solid tunes from across the last ten years! Push away your troubles, preferably not in a violent way, and otherwise enjoy things you didn’t have to decide for yourself!

Also, send in requests. Or don’t; it’s the weekend and I’m still not your boss.

Yet.

The Lunchbox Interview: Kathy Tidswell (Fibre Artist)

Posted on 2018-07-06 by encaf1 Posted in The Lunchbox

Art often touches us, but occasionally we can touch it back..

During the summer, the Fredericton Arts Alliance brings a pair of artists together in the Barracks to practice their art for all to see. These artists come from a wide variety of disciplines, from painting and sculpture to basket-weaving and writing. As each pair of artists comes in, we’ll be talking to them on the Lunchbox.

My guest today is Kathy Tidswell, a fibre artist combining painting and thread techniques to create unique, three-dimensional art. We chatted about her techniques and what brought her to create this art. You can see examples of her art on her web site, but to truly appreciate it, visit her in person at the Barracks this week.

The Lunchbox Interview: Emily Kennedy (Cellist/Composer)

Posted on 2018-06-28 by encaf1 Posted in The Lunchbox

Music is the translation of ideas into sound, a sampling of higher-dimensional magic.

My guest today is Emily Kennedy, a cellist and composer interested in modern styles of music as well as classical. She’s worked with orchestras and smaller groups, as well as with Property// and Cellarghost. She’s working in the casemates for a couple of weeks to produce numerous compositions, in particular the transformation of statistical data regarding the recent water flooding in Fredericton into an audible piece of impacting art.

The Lunchbox Interview: Derek Davidson (Visual Artist)

Posted on 2018-06-28 by encaf1 Posted in The Lunchbox

Art is the ultimate expression of “the sum is greater than its parts”, as complex, evocative images can be made from seemingly simple squiggles and dabs of colour.

My guest today is Derek Davidson, a visual artist working with combinations of ink drawing, watercolour painting and acrylic painting to capture real moments in time. Derek is spending his time in the casemates translating works from smaller sketches on paper to larger canvases and continuing to interpret the world’s movement and colour.
