This weeks episode features Tooth & the Fang. Dedicated to slow core dynamics, the band hangs their hat on beautifully melancholy music and lyrics and transcendental noise. We talk song writing process, the on-going noise complaints with live music in Saint John, and touring untapped, rural areas closer to home rather than culture hubs.

Good art presents you with something you can interpret. Great art presents contradictions and challenges you to understand not only the art, but yourself.
My guest today is Maria Martais, the Director of the UNB Art Centre. The Centre has two galleries located in the beautiful Memorial Hall on UNB campus, and are frequently featuring great exhibits of meaningful work. On Friday, March 2, the Centre is opening up a new exhibit of photographic works by Edward Burtynsky called “A Terrible Beauty”. In conjunction with the exhibition opening is the beginning of a new music accompaniment series called “FLOW”. Maria joins me to talk about the challenging and fascinating contradictions that will be on display and heard for this exhibition.
“A Terrible Beauty” and “FLOW” both open on Friday, March 2 at 5pm at the UNB Arts Centre, located in Memorial Hall at 9 Bailey Drive on UNB. “A Terrible Beauty” is on display until early April.

RadioU is a documentary series created by STU Journalism students. Each episode features a “major” and a “minor”, two topics that are somehow related. This series airs every Wednesday at noon, replacing an episode of The Lunchbox.
We’ve heard a lot about sexual harassment in Hollywood and journalism workplaces, but women in low-paying jobs are often the most vulnerable. St. Thomas radio journalism class majors in gender studies this week and questions why it is that the policy “the customer is always right” often ends up with the women being wronged.
And today, we’re minoring in Science and Technology Studies by talking to New Brunswick women who are slowly changing the “boys club culture” of the tech world.

INTERVIEW with Kelty Apperson
Hello loyal listeners, big day today as we have Kelty Apperson on the phone with us. For those who don’t know Kelty, there’s a long list of accolades we could list but the key points are that she’s:
That’s right, we’re joined by an honest to goodness professional hockey player.
We talked about many a thing, mainly what brought her to St. Thomas, what it was like to reach such highs with a University program. What being drafted was like, and how it’s different being a pro. We also asked some fun things like what road trips to China are like because the CWHL has a partnership with two Chinese teams.
We also touch briefly on the very small salaries afforded to Women’s Professionals and Kelty teaches us what the Olympic process is like for the Women who are over in Peyongchang.
After we’re off the phone with Kelty, Sean and I dicuss the racist remarks lobbed at Devante Smith-Pelly, and Handicap the Men’s and Women’s Hockey Finals at the Olympics.
I also admit to being willing to make a bet I’m glad I didn’t because I’d be out $200.
Thanks for listening,
K

RadioU is a documentary series created by STU Journalism students. Each episode features a “major” and a “minor”, two topics that are somehow related. This series airs every Wednesday at noon, replacing an episode of The Lunchbox.
This week, Haley Stairs and Sarah Morin explore the conflict and opportunity in the tension between local business and multi-national online mega-corporations like Amazon. Today’s major is in economics with a minor in marketing.
In addition to asking students their opinion on shopping local vs online, exploring the changes the millennial generation may experience in the retail experience, the hosts speak to Heather Maclean, an award-winning Marketing and Communications Practitioner who has lead teams and strategies for national and international private-sector organizations and currently teaches in the Communications and Public Policy department at STU.
