It’s easy to get the impression that the only people involved in staging a play are the actors on the stage; in smaller companies, that can be true, as every actor has several jobs.
My guests today are Mary, Veronica and Devon, three of the students involved in the upcoming Theatre UNB production of A Patriot For Me. Each of these students is involved not only in on-stage appearances but work in several roles behind the scenes. We talk about being a background and a foreground character, setting the stage and putting together the sound of the play, as well as each actor’s stage history.
A Patriot For Me opens April 4 and runs nightly until April 7 at Memorial Hall at UNB.

It’s almost Spring, and if that isn’t enough reason to kick up your heels with joy, how about we add music?
My guest today is Ysabelle Vautour, an enthusiastic member of Fredericton Swing Dance. Coming up on the weekend of April 6 through 8, they are holding the 5th Annual Swingin’ to Spring event, packed with lots of classic dance techniques, workshops and, of course, opportunities to tear up the floor with friends, old and new! She tells me all about the weekend event, how dance is bridging all ages of people, and the joy, fun and hard work that dancing can be.
Fredericton Swing Dance‘s Swingin’ to Spring starts with a dance on Friday (April 6), continues with workshops all day Saturday (with a dance that night) and continues on Sunday morning. It’s being held at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #4 on Queen St in Fredericton. Find out more information on their Facebook event page. The Fredericton Swing Dance group meets regularly on Mondays and at other times. Bring your dancin’ shoes!

RadioU is a documentary series created by STU Journalism students. Each episode features a “major” and a “minor”, two topics that are somehow related. This series airs every Wednesday at noon, replacing an episode of The Lunchbox.
This episode of the St. Thomas Journalism program’s show will major in botany, as we tell you everything you need to know about the coming legalization of marijuana. We’ll walk you through the legal buying experience, talk about the business and employment possibilities and suggest where the government should go next.
We’ll also be minoring in pool politics with an update of the sad saga of the Max Aitken facility at UNB.
Hosts/Producers: Jack Carr and Jeff McLean

The lights roll by and the wisps of mist flow past the tour bus, automated cars zip by without so much as a whisper let alone a roar. Inside, we smile and laugh in good humor and fun; even without the sun and amidst the heaviness of the world outside. It is here, in The Electric Metropolis that we can feel free, the music pulsing around us, through us, and inside our hearts. I am AD Springer, and this isn’t my city, I just happen to be your tour guide to all that is beautiful, wonderful, and enchanting in this city of sound and song. Be they man or machine, know that the singers we hear mean near-on every word with every bit of feeling they can jam in there. Some may be full of love; some of anger; some of hope; some of despair: but ride safe with me and know that you only have to take in what you have to. Your heart is your own, but always remember that it is always better the share than to hold it all onto yourself like so much tonnage upon the soul.

Too often, history seems to focus on the wars and larger conflicts; it’s perhaps even more important to see art representing the personal-scale conflicts and the edges of lesser-discussed lives.
My guests today are Christopher and Julian, two of the students in a senior drama class and actors in Theatre UNB’s last production of the year, A Patriot For Me. We discuss their roles in this unusual and vibrant historical play, including getting to know their choreography and settle into their characters.

It’s a sad truth that we often don’t realize the real impact of someone until after their passing. That means its even more important to celebrate them.
My guest today is musician Lucas Hicks, performing a tribute to Jason Molina, who passed away in 2013. Lucas discusses his passion for this singer-songwriter and what drives him to share Jason’s music with the world.
Lucas will be on stage at The Capital this evening at 9pm, along with David in the Dark doing their own tribute to Pedro the Lion, and followed by The Chaps playing covers of great artists and bands such as Tom Petty, The Band, Neil Young and more.

RadioU is a documentary series created by STU Journalism students. Each episode features a “major” and a “minor”, two topics that are somehow related. This series airs every Wednesday at noon, replacing an episode of The Lunchbox.
This episode of RadioU majors in sports marketing and minors in sports journalism.
Can the Maritimes support a Canadian Football League franchise? We talk to a former commissioner of the league, the mayor of Halifax and long-time local broadcaster.
And, we’ve been looking into the future of sports journalism in the age of twitter, blogs and rookie publications like the Athletic… is there a future for the old-time, fedora-wearing, beat sports reporter at your daily newspaper?
In our second half-hour, we talk about the playoff picture in the NHL, the chances the Raptors win the NBA title, and the upcoming season for the Blue Jays. Could this be a banner year for Toronto teams?
Hosts/producers: Alex Dascalu and Noah Warren.
