RFYL Episode – RipplesEP247
I’ve reconnected with a few people recently and I had to wonder what changed – and honestly, I think the thing that hasn’t changed at all is me. I am a fixed point in time, and it’s weird to say it, but I think I’m content with the direction of the show and the content I provide.
I stopped doing this in ways I didn’t enjoy a long time ago, and occasionally it can be a struggle to set up a playlist. That being said, there’s not much of a better feeling than turning my headset up loud and blasting some tunes. So, without further ado, here’s what I was listening to this week:
Playlist:
Starting Again – The JB Conspiracy (Beginnings)
Only Once – The Joy Formidable (Into The Blue)
I Lose Whatever I Own – Blood Red Shoes (Ghosts on Tape)
Dark Matter – Kilmore (Call of the Void)
Violent Nature – Woodhawk (Violent Nature)
Hold On – We Hunt Buffalo (Living Ghosts)
Momentuous (ft Percival) – Osyron (Momentuous)
Dead Skies – A Primitive Evolution (Becoming)
Faster Than Light – Unleash the Archers (Abyss)
You’ve Stolen The Words – Sergeant Thunderhoof (This Sceptred Veil)

The Lunchbox Interview: Jennifer Dow
My guest today is Jennifer Dow, local historian and curator of the exhibition We Were Here: A Portrait of Daily Life in New Brunswick’s Black Community (1850-1960). This exhibit tells the story of the everyday lives of Black New Brunswickers and features photographs and documents from the Provincial Archives as well as from the private collection of Jennifer Dow, a Black historian, genealogist, and a founding member of REACH in New Brunswick (Remembering Each African Cemetery’s History in New Brunswick).
Jennifer is a sixth generation descendant of early Black settlers in New Brunswick and is deeply committed to tracing the history and lineage of these settlers and ensuring that their existence in New Brunswick is not forgotten.
We Were Here: A Portrait of Daily Life in New Brunswick’s Black Community (1850-1960) will be on view in the West Gallery and opens on Feb. 24 at 5 p.m. This exhibit can also be viewed online.

RFYL Episode – BackspaceEP246
It’s a holiday weekend! We somehow made it here, and I decided to theme my show entirely off of something entirely unrelated, because making an episode all about Family (or I guess, not-Family considering the history of this show and how I’ve twisted everything) would go sideways. So here we are, another week of tunes being thrown at you – the bonus being that I finally followed up on a few bands I’ve spun in the past and found out I did, in fact, miss some releases.
Enjoy! Or don’t! I’m not your boss!

RFYL Episode – RetestEP245
After the miserable coldsnap, it’s important to realize a few things that we often take for granted. I don’t know what any of those things are, but it felt like I was about to start one of those campy self-help books that you can find that probably do actually help someone, but I have absolutely no business writing. So here we are, another music-filled episode to get you to your weekend or wherever you are when you happen to snag this podcast. It’s free, just download it. Or don’t.
There was a lot of outreach this week for music, which is awesome! I’m still going through the emails sent my way but I will get to them, I promise.

The Lunchbox Interview: #FreddyReach
This city is filled with helpful people, interesting things to do, and an abundance of possibilities. But sometimes, we need a little help discovering that.
My guests today are Emma Chevarie (Music Runs Through It) and Brenda Perrin (Fredericton Convention Centre), two of the organizers of the upcoming #FreddyReach community mixer. They join me to chat about the origins of the idea, their plans for the specific event coming up, and their hopes for the growth of community building that the #FreddyReach concept will inspire and facilitate.
The first #FreddyReach event (FB event link) is coming up on February 10 at 6pm until 8pm at The Tipsy Muse Café. They’re hoping for all sorts of people there, from newcomers still exploring the city to people who have lived here their entire lives, from people who are connectors to businesses and organization to those who wish to get connected. The mixer will also feature the opportunity to participate and share in a music jam.
You can find the #FreddyReach Facebook group for discussion, or visit the link tree the group has created for a wealth of local information.
