The Crazy Train Episode #XCVII
On Episode #97 of the Crazy Train we had locals ‘Tactus’ in to debut their entire album ‘Bending Light’.
Adrian, Alec, Steve and Ben joined me and we went through the album track by track and got into some talk about the bands gear, their touring and plans for the future.
The album is now available through the band or at the bandcamp website, as well as through Tactus.com (links below), they even have a special edition instrumental version of the album!
On next weeks episode of the Crazy Train I’m planning another Punk/Hardcore episode of the show. CHSR gets in a lot of Punk and Hardcore (plus other genres from the ‘Punk’ tree) and since no one is doing a show to get this music on air, I’ve decided to throw in some episodes here and there!
At the bottom of the page, below the info on where to get ‘Bending Light’ from Tactus, I’ve also included the ‘Upcoming shows’ as I didn’t have time to go through them on Saturday nights show.
Also, please note that since we’re back into UNB V-Reds hockey season, that every so often throughout the Winter the Crazy Train will be reduced to an hour long. It was either this, or get bumped completely, or end up doing the show on Sunday nights. But I thought it’d just be too ridiculous trying to steer listeners to different nights and different times!
Tactus ‘Bending Light’ is available at: http://www.tactusband.com/#/home

Beyond Good & Evil 2 is in development
After a few posts for the past little while it has been teased that Beyond Good & Evil 2 was coming. Ubisoft has officially announced today that it is in development, the announcement was made through the Beyond Good & Evil facebook page.
“If you’ve been waiting for news about BG&E … Well, here you go! We are delighted to confirm that Michel Ancel is currently working with the Ubisoft Montpellier studio on a new Beyond Good & Evil game.”
Beyond Good & Evil 2 was first announced back in 2008, but in 2016 question were beginning to arise whether the game was still in development; Yves Guillemot did confirm at E3 2016 that it was being developed, but it was hard because the series creator Michel Ancel was working on two games.
Rest assured though Beyond Good & Evil 2 is in development.
Batman TellTale Review Episode 1 & 2 Review
Batman: The Telltale Series – Episode 1 and 2
Trainer_Red, Gamers of the Round Table
Today my review on Telltales Batman is based on how well the amazing storytelling company worked with the Dark Knight’s lore, as well as evidence from what I’ve played so far (there are only two episodes out currently). Telltale certainly knows Batman better than I do and have done the Batman name justice so far.
Story: The story takes place during an election campaign where District Attorney Harvey Dent is running against Mayor Hill in order to improve Gotham City; luckily for Dent he is being supported by his good friend Bruce Wayne. But when Falcone shows up at the Wayne mansion during a meet and greet, the good name of the Wayne family starts to take a turn for the worse. In all honesty this game delves into lore I’ve never even heard of, including what Bruce’s parents – Martha and Thomas – were actually like personality wise.
Gameplay: As per usual Telltale style, the game revolves around the choices you make in conversation and alters the story based on your choices. The action scenes using quick time events requires players be paying close attention to a game that at times can feel like a visual novel, and the planning for when Batman has to clear a room is done so seamlessly that it’s near perfect.
Conclusion: TellTale certainly has a good grasp of the Batman universe and certainly delivers suspense, making me and many others excited to see what they have in store for the future episodes of this game.
Score: While the game is currently unfinished, what I’ve played so far is amazing and I’ve only run into a few issues (odd times where quick time events don’t respond despite a button being pressed correctly), but overall I feel I must give Batman episodes 1 & 2 a 9.5/10.
Skyrim and Fallout 4 are getting mod support after all.
Bethesdas Skyrim and Fallout 4 will be getting mod support after all, but will be limited. Bethesdas website statement also adds and states the following, “that both games will receive PlayStation 4 Pro enhancements as well. Skyrim Special Edition will run in native 4K on the upgraded system (screenshots below), while Fallout 4 will boast better lighting and graphics features.”
This is definitely a surprise because last month it was announced that there would be no mod support for these titles on the PS4 due to issues with sony. This was the quote from Bethesda last month
“After months of discussion with Sony, we regret to say that while we have long been ready to offer mod support on PlayStation 4, Sony has informed us they will not approve user mods the way they should work: where users can do anything they want for either Fallout 4 or Skyrim Special Edition,”
Mod support will be available first on Skyrim special edition then Fallout 4 on the PlayStation 4. Skyrim special edition is releasing on October 28th when everything runs smoothly, Bethesda will then focus their attention on Fallout 4.
Gravity Rush 2 Delayed
Gravity Rush 2 delayed, Even with the production of the highly anticipated sequel running smoothly it has been delayed, the game will now release on January 20th in the UK and U.S.
On the PlayStation blog, Keiichiro Toyama (director) says the delay is happening because of how busy the holiday schedule is, with the release of big games like Final Fantasy, Watch Dogs 2 releasing in the same timeframe.
Do not feel like your getting ripped off, Toyama announced because of the delay, a plan paid DLC will now be free when released.
Preview of BATTLEFIELD 1
BattleField 1 is flying in close with guns blazing, The World War 1 is set to release on October 21st on the ps4 and Xbox One and PC.
Battlefield 1 was revealed to the gaming community back in May, there was speculation before the reveal that Battlefield would take place during World War 1. It was not until the reveal that this was confirmed , it was like a breath of fresh air when it came to the first person genre. We have never seen a World War 1 game done to this scale before and it’s very exciting to see this kind of game come out in this day and age.
Dice went that extra mile to capture that reality of the first World War, from the trench warfare to the extremely dirty and muddy battlefields. Many new weapons came into play during this time period such as infantry rifles (German Mauser, British Lee-Enfield, French Lebel, French Berthier). It was not just about the guns that made advancements, the grenade, the mortar and the machine gun took big roles on the battlefield in the four years that the war took place.
During the campaign of Battlefield 1, you will take on the role of six different characters who have their own personal stories and experiences during the war. This explains why there are only six campaign missions, which is really unfortunate in this case because it makes me feel like they copped out on the campaign and for me, that is the highlight of the Battlefield franchise. During the campaign, however, I am hoping to see some classic battles like Vimy Ridge and Passchendaele.
For most people, it’s all about the multiplayer playing different modes alongside your friends online, fighting against other teams with people all across the world leveling up with each kill you get, working with your team to come out with the victory to unlock better weapons and gear etc. The multiplayer in Battlefield seems to be the main focus DICE and EA which is unfortunate because, people who buy it for the single player are getting the short end of the stick.
Hoping this game will shine a little bit of light on the education aspect for the younger generation, for those who do not know much or anything about the first world war. It may not give a huge history lesson, but it will give some insight of how rough the conditions were, the advancement of weapons, chemical warfare and trench warfare.
BattleField 1 is hitting store Shelves on October 21st on the PS4, Xbox One, and PC.

The Lunchbox Interview: Alissa Lee (Stan Cassidy Foundation) & Tyler Peacock (Gamers of the Round Table)
Videogames can help a person relate with the world, as well as provide access to a world not yet available, or imaginary.
My guests today are Alissa Lee from the Stan Cassidy Foundation and Tyler Peacock, the host of the Gamers of the Roundtable show here on CHSR. The Stan Cassidy Foundation supports the work of the rehabilitation centre also named after its founder, by spreading awareness and raising funds to help research and implementation of recovery and coping programs for individuals with mental and physical issues. They’ve been in operation for decades, setting a standard for care as well as generating solutions for rehabilitation and support.
Alissa joined me to talk about the work started by Stan Cassidy which continues to this day, and the impact that the work has had on its clients. She also talked a bit about the use of videogames in therapy, and the need for adaptive devices to help provide access for more people.
The Stan Cassidy Foundation is creating a new fundraiser to help raise needed money for a new project called Game Changers. That project will create the first accessible gaming service in Canada, and contribute to research to help make that an ongoing success. The fundraiser is a 12-hour videogame marathon, organized by videogame journalist Tyler Peacock. The Stan Cassidy Centre has a very personal connection to his life, and he’s organizing this marathon as a way to give back for the support the Centre has shown his family.

Top 10 reasons to be excited for Mafia 3.
With “Mafia 3” finally on the horizon and only a few days away, being one of the most unique games to come out this year I am here to tell you 10 reasons why you should be excited for Mafia 3.
10. New Bordeaux
New Bordeaux is a re-creation of the famous city, New Orleans, which is not your typical Mafia setting, when you think Mafia you think New York (God Father) and (GoodFellas), New Jersey (Sopranos) and Chicago (Capone) and (the Untouchables). New Bordeaux definitely sounds like an interesting city in the south to get lost in and explore every square inch of.
9. Time Period
Mafia 3 takes place in the year 1968, which is a very contradicting time for American culture, music, politics, Vietnam war and the civil rights movement. Peace rallies were taking place across America at the time against the Vietnam war and to fight for equal rights when it came to race, and plenty of songs were written about these subjects as well. Everything back then was all about peace and love and harmony, (which is not a bad thing at all)
8. Vito Scaletta
Vito Scaletta makes his return, the main protagonist from Mafia 2 plays a big part in helping Lincoln Clay take down Sal Marcano. After the events of Mafia 2, Vito Scaletta gets forced to go live in New Bordeaux and exiled by the Italian mafia there, he then decides to join forces alongside Lincoln.
7. Sound Track
Mafia 3 easily has one of the most ambitious and most recognizable soundtracks on a video game to date. Staying authentic to the 60’s, Hangar 13 has brought us a blast from the past, bringing songs to the game like FORTUNATE SON by CCR, PAINT IT BLACK by The rolling stones, HOUSE OF THE RISING SUN by The Animals and LITTLE LESS CONVERSATION by Elvis Presley and so much more. From classic rock to southern jazz and blues of New Orleans.
6. DUKES OF HAZZARD driving.
Hangar 13 expressed later on last year at GamesCom 2015 that they wanted you to feel like a Hollywood stunt driver, by drifting cars around corners, hitting large jumps and outrunning police in the city and back country roads. Roaring v8 engines in cars of the time like Dodge Chargers and Gran Torino’s, you will truly feel like Bo and Luke Duke or Starsky and Hutch.
5. Combat Variety.
In Mafia 3 you have many ways you can tackle a situation, you can take the stealthy approach, going up behind enemies and doing brutal takedowns with a knife or your fist or, you can go into a situation guns blazing; having a complete weaponry in your arsenal from double barrel shotguns to C4. Which you can blow everything up and leave a trail of fire behind you just enough to watch their empire crumble or you can take the stealthy approach and make some of the guys work for you to bring in a bigger reward.
4. Authenticity
Bringing authenticity to the 60’s was going to be tough and sometimes controversial, with the civil rights movement, discrimination, and the movement against the Vietnam war. Hangar 13 in a couple interviews last year (2015) when the game was first announced expressed how they knew it was going to be hard to tackle a game like this with your character and the time period, but they handled the issues very well.
3. Lincoln Clay
You play as Lincoln Clay (he is not your average mobster). Lincoln Clay is a biracial orphan and Vietnam veteran who grew up around the black mob in New Bordeaux. When Lincoln returns from the war he finds his family being slaughtered including himself being left for dead; Lincoln finds himself on a path of revenge against the Italian mafia (The Marcanos).
2. The Map.
New Bordeaux is split up of 10 different Districts, because of your character if you are in the wrong part of town and someone notices, the cops will be called. The districts are, Delray hollow where Lincoln grew up, Frisco Fields the high society but, with a gritty underbelly, The French Ward, The bayou,Pointe Verdun, Southdowns, Barclay mills, Tickfaw Harbor, Downtown, and River Row.
1. Building an Empire
Through out the game of Mafia 3, while you are on the mission of revenge against the Marcanos, you can take over various crime syndicates to have an income these rackets include the following, drug markets, Safe houses and getting valuable information from their lieutenants, hunting down pimps, gambling dens and cargo that “fell off a boat or truck”. Once these are taken down you can rebuild them for your self to bring in money and you can choose one of your lieutenants to run the operation.
Well there you have it, folks that are 10 reasons to be excited for Mafia 3, Remember its nothing personal, its just business. Mafia 3 is due to release on October 7th on PS4, Xbox One and PC.

FIFA 17 Review
FIFA is back with another year for more football (soccer), but this time it has been powered by the Frostbite engine. Does this make a difference to the game and does the all new journey mode hold its ground in the FIFA franchise? Let’s find out.
FIFA has risen to the surface again, with an all-new look and new mode. This year’s installment of the franchise has been designed with the Frostbite engine to allow for the story-driven journey mode. You play as Alex Hunter, a little kid playing pick-up games in a Sunday league in London, England. Time skips forward seven years, to when you are about to try out for one of the twenty premier league teams.
Once you get a grade high enough to make the team you choose which team you want to be a part of. You start off as a substitute; before each game you do some training and depending on how you perform that can determine if you are going to be starting or sitting on the bench. As you play through a few games you get bumped down into another league. Doing well in the lower league will get you called back up to the premier league. Throughout the journey, the way you respond to people can have an effect on you: if you answer a question with a cocky attitude, your followers will go up but the relationship with your manager will go down, if you answer a question cool the manager relationship will go up but the followers will go down. The way you respond to your team mates can also affect your relationship with them off and on the field. Through the course of your journey, you will see your stats increase and sponsorship deals come in as you reach a certain amount of social media followers.
All the modes from previous installments of FIFA are there, from season mode all the way to ultimate team. FIFA has done a lot of things right in this year’s installment compared to last year’s, however, the game does still struggle with some mechanics. Passing is one of them; while I am on the pitch and I want to pass it to another player it will go to another teammate that I had no intention of passing it to. As well, during a penalty kick I could not switch my keeper to automatic control, which became very frustrating.
FIFA 17 delivers exactly what I needed and wanted in a soccer game, a lot of changes for the good, an all-new story driven mode showing the ups and downs of a professional athlete, Ultimate team mode where you can build your all-star team of current players and legends from Reus to Beckham, and play through the divisions. If you are football fan then FIFA 17 is the definitely the title you want to pick up.
FIFA 17: 8.5/10

Doom Review
Doom (2016) Review
Alex the Kidd, Gamers of the Round Table
Bethesda and ID’s visceral collaboration, Doom throws players into a fast-paced, metal-fueled first-person shooter. With monsters and mayhem in abundance, does Doom offer anything new to the over saturated FPS market, or are fans left with another generic shooter?
The Good
The fast paced action of Doom sets it apart from other games in the FPS genre. There is no time to take cover, and if you don’t move, you are guaranteed to die while enemies are around. There is a feeling of urgency and an element of unpredictability with the enemies that is absent from most games of the genre. The game encourages players to utilize its “gore kill” system by having enemies drop health pick-ups from being killed in this manner; this was a feature that could have felt tacked-on, but ultimately becomes a core combat element that can be necessary for those running low on health. The brutality of the weapons and the creativity behind their upgrade/attachments provide players with a level of strategy to handle demonic encounters; players must act quickly when fighting demons as the weapon wheel only slows the action, but does not stop it. Players are challenged with adjusting to any demonic encounter on the fly and this level of non-stop action makes for an enjoyable experience.
The snapmap game mode deserves high praise not only for its entertainment value, but also its practical applications in teaching coding. Snapmap allows players to create their own playable maps and upload them for others to play themselves. The remarkable aspect behind this game mode is the detail, size, and environmental reactions a player can create within their own map; the level of detail and control that players can put into their own creation makes this game mode a how-to for coding. Were it not for the games Mature rating (17+), Doom would be a highly recommended teaching tool for those students interested in coding.
The Bad
While there is a story present within Doom’s campaign mode, it’s less than compelling; portal to hell has been opened, close it. While the story unfolds through collectable dossiers and natural progression, there is little depth or surprises here. It’s not terrible, but it’s not great either. The online multiplayer is more of the same, in that there is little difference between it and every other multiplayer FPS mode on the market. You won’t see anything here that you haven’t seen before.
The major offender in Doom is repetition; there isn’t much more to this game other than move from one area to the next to clear out enemies. While players are encouraged to explore the surprisingly large maps, the repetitive nature of clearing out hives of demons begins to take its toll, and eventually the gameplay becomes stagnant. The level and creature designs are extremely detailed, but the gameplay never really evolves, despite having more difficult enemies thrown at you as the story progresses. Doom plays all of its cards in the first half; everything from that point on is more of the same.
Rating
7.5 – Doom brings freshness to the FPS genre that has been absent for far too long. The old-style health and armor pick-ups create a difficulty many gamers either forgot existed, or had never experienced. Fans of the series will rejoice with the fast-paced blood-bath that is Doom. While the core game becomes repetitive, the inclusion of the snapmap is an innovative game mode that is ripe with potential, and the multiplayer mode at the very least serves its purpose, despite not bringing anything new to the table. Overall, Doom is a non-stop ride through hell and back, and many gamers will be pleased by the series return to form.
The Lunchbox Interview: Dawson Rutledge
If we’re lucky, we discover what really moves us at an early age, and then hold on with both hands.
My guest today is Dawson Rutledge, a young musician from BC currently visiting New Brunswick. His debut album, Today, Tonight, Tomorrow, came out earlier this year. The album was half-composed at high-school, but you’d hardly notice because the music feels years beyond that. He joins me today to talk about his passion for music, the support from family and teachers he received, and where music has taken him already.
We heard three tracks in this interview: Bullets and Bandages (from the album), Whispering Winds (live, not on the album) and Mysterious Woman (from the album).
