Great episode of the Crazy Train, if I do say so myself!
Steve and I welcomed on local Rockers with a passion, Fredericton’s ‘The Panda Bee Catastrophe’ for a great interview, with just about all the members of the band. The band has only been around for a couple years now, starting out as a 80’s/’90’s cover band before slowly wading into the realm of original material. The stations had ‘Workaday Jane’ (that is spelt correct!) for a couple of months now and you may have already heard it. The band is just finishing up recording and getting prepped to embark on a major cross Canada tour! So keep your ears peeled to the Crazy Train and other CHSR programs for news about ‘Panda Bee..’ releases and shows! You can catch them at this years East Coast Awakening happening the very last weekend of July 2016. Check out this episode for all the details.
Here’s the play list for Episode #85!

Be sure to tune in next weekend as we’re joined by good friend and somewhat frequent CTrain guest Tyson Davidson. Tyson’s coming on to introduce us to his new band ‘I Monolith’. I’ve heard some samples of their originals and we’re in for a treat!

It’s an old joke, yet true: how do you become a writer? You write, every day!
Marcel St Pierre took this advice to heart, and turned his pen (or his keyboard) to work for him every day for a year. After that was over, he had material enough to satisfy himself, then compiled the best of it into his new book, Vengeful Hank and Other Short Weird Stories. He joins me on the phone to talk writing, being a comedy creative in Canada, and his route from New Brunswick to Toronto.

Parenting seems to me to be a mix of art, magic, science, psychology and endurance — but thankfully, there are those who want to help.
My guest today is Heidi Billington, the organizer at the Smythe Street Cathedral of a collection of workshops called “Change Ahead: Successfully Parenting Transitions”. These are aimed at providing parents with knowledge and community when dealing with children in three transitional stages of life. She joined me to talk about what each of the age groups will talk about, her own experiences raising 4 children, and how such groups help fill-in the gaps in the parenting job.

Nice to be back on the Crazy Train after a few weeks off! Thanks to Steve ‘The Buzz Man’ Dunnett for filling in for me!
So, over the next few months on the Crazy Train we’ll be featuring all the bands who will be playing at this Summer’s TWO major Metal & Hard Rock festivals. They are, The Maritime Metal & Hard Rock Festival #IV, which will be held at Windsor NS’s ‘Hants County Fairgrounds July 22-23. Year #4 promises to be the best one yet and keep your ears tuned to the Crazy Train for interviews with festival founder Jay Chetwynd as well as give-aways and passes to the festival.
Then on the weekend of July 29th to the 31st is East Coast Awakening. Founder Dave Manning has already joined us and will be on the show in the next coming weeks now that the lineup has been solidified and he’s gearing up for what will be a HUGE Metal fest with 50+ bands! Featuring just about every Hard Rock and Metal band from the Quebec/New Brunswick border to the Atlantic ocean in Nova Scotia, plus bands from the US and Canada!

It’s time to plan for the fall — at least for one week in September!
The Harvest Jazz & Blues Festival is the biggest musical event of the year for Fredericton — in a city which boasts several great music festivals all year round! They recently announced some of the line-up for this year’s production, include The Drive-By Truckers, The Besnard Lakes and Metric. My guest today is Brendan Magee, one of the staff who works year-round to make the festival a success. He joins me to talk about some of the artists who’ve been announced, the year-round process of organizing the festival, and some of the favourite experiences he’s had at festivals past.

Can you be too close to something to give a complete opinion?
It’s a good thing to be supportive, but that can mean sometimes it can be difficult to point of where improvements can be made. It can also be hard to take criticism from those who are closest to you — and sometimes the praise is also hard to accept, too.
My guest today is Matt Carter. About a year-and-a-half ago, he started up a website called Grid City Magazine, dedicated to celebrating the great arts and entertainment this city has to offer, and embodying the answer to the question “What is there to do in this city?”
Since then, it’s grown to be an important part of the arts scene, but recently, Carter has been thinking about the critical reflection that is needed on art. He recently launched “Let’s Talk About NB Music”, a project to collect together people interested in helping provide that critical voice. He joins me to talk about the idea behind the project, his work on Grid City Magazine, and his thoughts on the place of criticism in art.
