Run For Your Life! – the psychobilly rock show of zombie sharks

On this episode, I screw up song names, miss out on playing a few tracks I intended, and otherwise barely manage to hold on! But, flying solo, all the trends and segments get pushed aside as I try to stay entertaining. It worked! Probably. At least you still got a really good song of the week from Beneath the Grid, even if I managed to introduce it as A Brilliant Lie instead. Both bands are fantastic and you should give them a listen anyway.

A lot of great Canadian artists show up on this episode, and also, I brag about how many people were messaging me on Facebook because that’s the kind of person I am! Props to Shane – we’ll get you live on the show at some point soon! Maybe even next week!

Requests can be made for next week’s show by emailing me at RunForYourLifeCHSR@gmail.com or finding me at facebook.com/RunForYourLifeCHSR

Playlist:
JPNSGRLS – Bully For You
Kilmore – Rising Sun
The Standstills – Pay No Mind
Napalmpom – Make Me Cry
Double Experience – Exposure Exposure
Rockyard – The Impact
Diemonds – Meet Your Maker
Lionsault – Running Wild
Beneath the Grid Music – Blaine the Mono – Jellyfish

The Lunchbox Interview: Isabelle & Bianca from The Identity Journey Project (followup)

Posted on 2016-05-25 by encaf1 Posted in The Lunchbox

LunchBox-IdentityJourneyHow do you condense hundreds of ideas into a single piece of theatre?

That’s the question Isabelle and Bianca of Thèâtre La Cicogne are asking themselves now. I first spoke to the pair back in November of last year about the beginning of their adventure, The Identity Journey Project. They canvassed hundreds of youth between the ages of 15 and 30 all over the province to ask them about how they identify as New Brunswickers. Now, they’re transforming the results into a play.

We talk about the task ahead, the challenge of creating a 4-language play, and the mentoring from a similar project in Quebec.

The Lunchbox Interview: Adrian Park (Diversions Summer Opera Series)

Posted on 2016-05-20 by encaf1 Posted in The Lunchbox

LunchBox-Diversions-SummerOperaSeries2016The more you know about something, the less sure you are that you really know what that something is.

What is the difference between an opera and a Broadway musical? Is it possible to be both? My guest today is Adrian Park, host of the long-running classical music and opera program on Sunday afternoons called Diversions. Every summer, he extends his program by an hour to fit in a series of full operas. This summer, he’s taking a look at productions from North America, many of which straddle the line between operas and musicals.

To demonstrate, he brought a sample of Treemonisha, an opera by Scott Joplin, well-known African-American composer and performer better know for his ragtime music. We hear the last song of the opera, A Real Slow Drag.

You can find Diversions every Sunday at 4pm on CHSR! The summer opera series begins July 3.
