The Lunchbox Interview: Julian Christie (ENBICON)
October has always been a great month for the imagination. One of the greatest holidays which promotes the use of the creepier side of your mind’s dreams comes at the end of the month, but this year we get a special bonus: the ENBICON game convention combined with CAPITAL COSPLAY!
The annual ENBICON gaming convention returned from the dead last year, and repeated this trick in February of this year, and now has a second edition in what might become it’s regular spot, in October. And this time, it combines another great local festival of creativity, the CAPITAL COSPLAY.
My guest today is Julian Christie, one of the organizers of ENBICON. We chat games from Pathfinder to the Artemis Starship Bridge Simulator, from war machine mecha combat to Star Wars miniatures. I (Mark the Encaffeinated ONE) am going to be running a game at the convention, and I hope many others will check it out.
Music today:
- Matt Epp asks us if we are Ready In Time;
- And we got some Fightin’ Words from Soho Ghetto just before the interview about Enbicon.

The Lunchbox Interviews: Brad Henstock, President of UNB/STU Young Liberals
It’s election season, which you should probably know — even if you’ve been living under a rock. We’re nearing the end of the campaigning, and for some — including students — your opportunity to vote is already here! Time to check in with some of the people bringing you the urgency to elect your government.
My guest today is Brad Henstock, the President of the UNB/STU Young Liberals. We talked about his path to political involvement, what students are looking for, and what politics might look like in the future. Get engaged with the electoral process, and make sure to give your informed position on the end result by voting.
Music today:
- From the brand new album Elements by The Long Distance Runners, we heard You Gotta Remind Me.
- Olivia & the Creepy Crawlies give their song Your Door from Tongue-Tied a beautiful spin.
- And from the delightfully entitled Zazzerzaz II, we heard Cassette Please from Elephant Skeletons.

The Lunchbox Interviews: Jon Astle (Special Olympics Yellow Card Initiative), Sarah and Phoenix (Women in Transition House annual bed push fundraiser)
On today’s Lunchbox in the first half of the program we had on Jon Astle from the New Brunswick Special Olympics Committee to talk about the National ‘Yellow Card’ initiative, which is a new national and annual awareness campaign to help the Nation stamp out the use of the “R”-Word. The Yellow Card Initiative takes place October 8th in Fredericton’s downtown. The group will meet at the Beaverbrook Art Gallery on Queen st. at 11AM. There volunteers will be given a yellow T-shirt as well as yellow cards to hand out downtown during the lunch hour from 12-1PM. Each yellow card has information about the hurt and damage one can do by saying the “R” word and the cards will help create awareness of the social injustice such words have in our society. The cards also include a “pledge” to no longer use the “R” word.
The Special Olympics ‘Yellow Card’ initiative is still looking for volunteers, so please get in touch by calling (506) 455-0404 and you can also find out more information on Facebook by searching for the Special Olympics Yellow card campaign.
For more information: http://www.motionball.com/yellowcard/
In the second half of the Lunchbox I was joined on air by Sarah and Phoenix from Neville and Jones house here on the UNB campus to talk about the Women in Transition House annual Bed Push, taking place October 23rd.
Starting at Officer square in downtown Fredericton. The bed will roll nonstop around Officer Square until such time that the bed will be pushed up the hill to the BMO field on the UNB Campus. The bed will be pushed the equivalent to the distance of traveling from Saint John to Fredericton.
In 2014 they raised $13,000! For more information: http://www.nevillejones.ca/history.html
There were some events to talk about and we heard music from:
