The Lunchbox Interview: Richard Hornsby (NBSMF)

Posted on 2015-08-12 by encaf1 Posted in The Lunchbox

LunchBox-NBSMF2015What do you think of when you think of classical music?

Name 5 classical music composers.

Now, can you name 5 others?

My guest today is Richard Hornsby, Director of Music for the NB Summer Music Festival, which comes up largely next week (although it has already started, and has another performance tonight and Friday at noon). We talked about the origins and legacy of this 22-year Festival, the unique format of the Festival, how he chooses which composers to feature, and this year’s lineup of performances.

Music today:

  • Having trouble sleeping at night? Of The Pack can sympathize, as they sing Sleeping Pill from their Bitter album.
  • And Gypsophilia brings us a great track from their new album. It’s Long Shadows for the shortening days, from the album Night Swimming.

We then spent the remaining time talking about UFC and the domination by one “Rowdy” Ronda Rousey at the last UFC event, and speculate about her future.

The Lunchbox Interview: Dillon Ryan’s Hindsight

Posted on 2015-08-05 by encaf1 Posted in The Lunchbox

LunchBox LogoRandom chance is a wonderful thing! With two hosts down for the weather, I (Mark the Encaffeinated ONE) decided to pop in to cover the Lunchbox. At just that time, Dillon Ryan dropped by with his brand-new self-titled CD, Dillon Ryan’s Hindsight. I chatted with Ryan about his view of music, what life as an artist in the Miramichi is like, and how this album came about.

Music today:

  • In honour of the wild weather week, we heard Something Like A Storm by Great Lake Swimmers, from the album A Forest of Arms.
  • Around talking with Dillon Ryan, we heard two tracks from the self-titled album (Dillon Ryan’s Hindsight): Sudden Mystery and Out of Touch.
  • And again because of the weather, we heard Stephen Lewis from his great new album Life’s a Garden with Caliente.
