The Crazy Train Episode #LXX – Lemmy Kilmister Special

Posted on 2016-01-05 by Chris Waddell Posted in The Crazy Train

newCTlogo_03012015NOTE: January 9th’s Episode of the Crazy Train will air live at 4PM! Due to a UNB Reds Hockey game which CHSR covers live!

Happy New Year from Steve ‘The Buzz Man’ and myself. I hope you all had a Merry and Metal Holiday Season!

We kicked off 2016 on the Crazy Train with a somber note and a special episode dedicated to the Legendary Lemmy Kilmister who passed away December 28th 2015, just two days after being diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer. Lemmy of course famously known for his gravely voice, thundering bass guitar in Motorhead, but we dove further back in Lemmy’s life, waaay back to the 1960’s where we started the show with tracks from not Lemmy’s first band but the band that certainly got him started off on his road to Rock’n’Roll insanity. Lemmy played guitar in the ‘Rocking Vickers’ a very Beatlesque type band. After leaving the Vickers and touring with Jimmy Hendrix (as a roadie), Lemmy’s next musical venture was playing bass for the first ‘Space’ Prog Rock outfit ‘Hawkwind’. Fueled by hallucinogens, speed and other assorted drugs of the 70’s, Lemmy toured with Hawkwind for several albums until one fateful day as the band Hawkwind was crossing the U.S. / Canadian border, Lemmy was arrested for drug possession and thrown in the clink! While in jail, the band who were growing further apart from Lemmy, due to his choice of drugs not being the ‘shrooms and acid they took, but Lemmy was into speed and amphetamines, so they fired Lemmy, leaving him in Toronto to fend for himself.

After being axed from ‘Hawkwind’ Lemmy said he’d never be fired from a band again and formed ‘Motorhead’ and the rest is history!

So we played 3 ‘Rocking Vickers’ tracks, 3 ‘Hawkwind’ tracks, then 3 ‘Head Cat’ tracks. The ‘Head Cat’ was a band started by members of the ‘Stray Cats’ and had a revolving door of musicians throughout many years. Lemmy and Foo Fighter’s frontman Dave Grohl played on a ‘Head Cat’ album, so we played 3 cuts from that before turning over the rest of the show completely to ‘Motorhead’… Well except for one more track by ‘Probot’ -Dave Grohl’s one album project.

Playlist for Episode #70:

Ace Of Spades – Motorhead|| Shake Rattle & Roll, Walking & Talking, Go Ape – The Rocking Vickers|| You Know You Are Only Dreaming, Master Of The Universe, Silver Machine – Hawkwind|| American Beat, Bad Boy, Let It Rock – The Head Cat|| Chase is Better Than The Catch, Speed Freak, Damage Case, I’m So Bad (Baby I Don’t Care), Iron Fist, Bomber, No Remorse, Jail Bait, Eat The Rich, Rock’N’Roll, Sacrifice, Orgasmatron, The Hammer, Overkill, Deaf Forever – Motorhead|| Shake Your Blood – Probot.

Thanks to you all for joining us on the Crazy Train. We’re looking forward to a stellar year ahead with many great Metal releases from Atlantic Canada and the rest of the Country, not to mention the great releases from Global Metal. We’ll have interviews, info on all the upcoming local Metal shows, info about the Metal festivals happening this Summer, giveaways and so much more!

If you are in a band, know of an awesome Metal band that should be heard on the Crazy Train be sure to let us know!

Local and Canadian Metal bands, when we play your music on the Crazy Train all of it’s logged and sent to the CRTC and album charting orgs. We can get you National exposure! So send us your tracks, get in touch for an interview! email: musicdirectorATchsrfm.ca! Do it today!

The Crazy Train Episode #LXIX -Best of 2015 Part I

Posted on 2015-12-29 by Chris Waddell Posted in The Crazy Train

newCTlogo_03012015On the last episode of the Crazy Train for 2015, we took a look back at some of our favorite tracks and bands from the year. 2015 saw a whole slew of amazing albums put out by Indie Canadian Metal bands as well as highly anticipated albums from the Global Metal community.

Due to the passing of Lemmy Kilmister of Motorhead on Dec. 28th, Part II of the ‘Best of 2015’ show will be moved to Saturday Jan 9th 2016. Lemmy of course was a MAJOR force and a very huge influence on not only Rock’N’Roll, but Heavy Metal and Punk. Over the last year Lemmy’s health began to decline and many wondered just how long he could carry on. The news of Lemmy’s passing is a further loss as Philthy ‘Animal’ Taylor passed away not even a month ago now.

Here’s the play list for Episode #69 of The Crazy Train

Hour I:

Crazy Train – Ozzy Osbourne || Comfortably – Chaos Theory || See You Try – Brother || Love To Suffer – Rectum Of Pain (CHSR Debut)|| Beyond The Distant Sun – Doom Machine || The Headless King – Nihilo Machina || Ice Box Queen – Neighborhood Watch || Asphyxiate – The Jake Duffie Project || Junk – Monteith || Gasoline – Dead City Angels || Hideous Appetites – Adrenechrome

Hour II:

Ora Pro Nobis Lucifer – Behemoth || He Is & Absolution – Ghost || Superhero – Faith No More || Time To Die – SATAN || Speed Of Light – Iron Maiden || Engage The Fear Machine – Lamb Of God || Take Control – SLAYER || Stubborn Stains – Napalm Death || Hail The Apocalypse – Avatar

Thank you to all the bands we harassed for interviews, CD’s, our notes we send to you before the show.

We can’t have a great show without the insanely awesome music YOU create!

Thanks to all our listeners who put up with our mistakes and other silliness!

See you all next year…. Light a candle, put on some Motorhead and CRANK IT while you remember the man who’s given the World of Rock, Metal & Punk so very very much. Rest In Peace Lemmy.

The Lunchbox Interview: Adityaa Mohan on Chennai Flood Relief

Posted on 2015-12-22 by encaf1 Posted in The Lunchbox

LunchBox-ChennaiFloodingDisaster struck half-way around the world, and yet it has resonance from right within our community. Chennai in India suffered devastating floods which many are still recovering from. Adityaa Mohan, a grad student studying at UNB, comes from Chennai, and stopped by the station to tell us his story of keeping track of family and friends throughout this ordeal, and the subsequent rush of support and kindness that is coming as much from the people on the ground as well as the international community.

Adityaa shared a few links that he feels help to further illustrate the story, and lead to some places to help as well:

  • #ChennaiMicro (Facebook) has been a hashtag tracking a lot of the efforts so far, and the needs.
  • Videos and photos of some of the devastation (warning, images contain bodies).
    • TamilTV (video)
    • Dinakaran Daily Newspaper (photo)
    • Chennai Memes (video) – boat on water
    • Chennai Memes (video) – military aid
