The Lunchbox Interview: John Mahler (Winter Driving)

Posted on 2015-12-11 by encaf1 Posted in The Lunchbox

LunchBoxJohnMahlerWinterDrivingYou know it’s Winter, right?

At least, as far as your car is concerned, you should probably accept the change in seasons. My guest today is John Mahler, columnist and driving expert. He told me all about the things I should know about getting my car ready for winter driving, including tires, heating, and remembering to take it slow. Oh, and he definitely recommends Blizzak Tires.

Music today:

  • It was quite pea soup today, so I had to play The Fog Song by David Bouzouki from the excellent compilation It’s Always Sunny in New Brunswick.
  • In despair, however, I turned to a classic song well redone: the uplifting Cloudbusting, original done by Kate Bush and here reproduced by Matthew Good, with special guest Holly MacNarland.
  • And to keep us feeling good, I ended with Stephen Lewis sharing my thanks to you with Golly Gee Thanks from Life Is A Garden.

Posted on 2015-12-11 by the Encaffeinated ONE Posted in CAFFEEN!

CFN 2015-09-19 coverartLife might be like a river..

You may stay in the boat and let the river take you where it will, while you stare in despair at the shore passing by..

You may wrestle against the water and beach the vessel, striding off and leaving the river flowing defiantly behind you..

Or you might lay back and observe the wonder of the stars, content that life will go where it will, but you mind will be free..

  • From Walls/Oram‘s album Sound Houses, we heard Strange Lines, And Distances.
  • We heard 1 Yr Anniversary from their self-titled album, with the song gargantua road.
  • We heard Do Make Say Think from their self-title album, with the song The Fare To Get There.
  • We heard 52 Commercial Road with their song In Floods And Droughts from the compilation album A Cheery Wave From Stranded Youngsters: UK Post-Rock / Instrumental / Math-Rock (3rd Wave).

The Crazy Train Episode #LXVI

*NOTE: Due to the limited space on our servers, CHSR programs that are 2 hours are rendered out at 128Kbps

EnewCTlogo_03012015pisode #66, Ugh, I was still reeling from a stomach bug I came down with on Thursday (Dec. 03). I felt “Ok”, until I opened my mouth to talk at the beginning of the show. But with my cohost Steve ‘The Buzz Man’ Dunnett, we made it through!

Had another show jammed packed with solid Molten Metal. Episode playlist included:

Hour I: Crazy Train – Ozzy Osbourne / Legend of the Frost Bound Order –
Abysseral Throne (Moncton) / With One Stone – Jake Duffie Project (Fredericton) /
Insomniac – Red Castle (Fredericton) / Cure – Requiomend (Montreal) / Sound Off! –
Hashtag This! (Miramichi) / 20 & 8 – 88 Mile Trip (Vancouver) / Have It All – Chaos
Theory (Halifax) / Eat My Sins – Victim 13 (Fredericton) / Lock Step – Adrenechrome (Toronto)
Hour II:
Starlight – Helloween / In My World – Anthrax / This Love –
Pantera / Ride The Lightning (Live) – Metallica / Mummy Dust –
GHOST / Rise of the Fallen – Soulfly / Protest Life – SCUM /
Demon Cleaner – KYUSS / Monsters Ball – Butcher Babies / This
Wont End Well – All That Remains.

On March 1st, start up Metal Festival ‘East Coast Awakening’ will announce their line up for their two day Metal festival at Woolastook Provincial Park at the end of July. This new festival will feature over 40 bands, two stages! Keep your ears jammed to CHSR for more info coming up.

Jay Chetwynd’s ‘Maritime Hard Rock & Metal Festival IV’ is starting to get underway. No word on the venue yet, but as always, we’ll keep you plugged in to what’s going o.

On Saturday evening’s show Gavin from ‘Siegebreaker’ checked in from their home base where they are recording their 5 song debut album/E.P. They have Jake Duffie down as the engineer and we’re hearing a lot of promising talk about this young man, who will also be recording ‘The Wasteland Zombies’ 2 song E.P. which will be available in the first part of the 2016.

Also local startup “glam Rock’ group ‘The Troubadours are looking for a drummer. Must be experience, fit and ready to Rock with his or her’s doodlewhacker out! Get a hold of  Chris “Shilo Sixx’ Simpkins on Facebook for more info

If you have or know of a band that should be heard on the Crazy Train, let us know! Send links or Mp3’s to: musicdirectorATchsrfm.ca

By airing your band on CHSR-FM’s The Crazy Train you can end up charting on National charts! So we’re always more than happy to pump out the local heaviness!

You can find all the Crazy Train’s episodes we’ve done since it’s resurrection in 2014 here:

http://chsrfm.ca/blog/cat/current-shows/music/the-crazy-train

Next week’s Crazy Train will be a repeat, unless Steve sits in for me, as I’ll be in the recording studio with The Wasteland Zombies!

The Lunchbox Interview: Isabelle and Bianca on Identity Journey

Posted on 2015-12-04 by encaf1 Posted in The Lunchbox

LunchBox-IdentityJourneyWe all search for our own individual identity, but what about our collective New Brunswick identity? Does that even exist? If so, what does it look like?

That’s the question being brought up in the Identity Journey project. The first step is to ask young people in New Brunswick what they think the identity of people in this province is composed of. Then, Théâtre La Cigogne will take all their words and stage a production to show everyone who we say we are. I spoke with Isabelle and Bianca about the project, what they will be asking people to describe, and their hopes for the broader discussion of identity.

Music today:

  • French is part of our identity, so here’s a beautiful song sung in French by Coeur de Pirate called Drapeau Blanc.
  • We have misconceptions about our identity, but we have the chance to correct them, at least that’s what I took away from Little You Little Me‘s song If You Say It Ain’t So.
  • And Tortue will be on stage this Saturday, so let’s get started with Abe.

The Lunchbox Interview: Bryan Bailey on Dogs and Christmas

Posted on 2015-12-03 by encaf1 Posted in The Lunchbox

LunchBox-BryanBailey‘Tis the season for celebrating? But what about your dog?

I’ll admit: I’m not a dog-lover. Never got the hang of it, never felt entirely comfortable with canines. But I have plenty of friends who swear by their pooch, even though I see nothing but an incomprehensible, wild animal.

Turns out, looking at a pet dog as half wild animal isn’t such a bad approach. I talked with Bryan Bailey, author of “Embracing the Wild in Your Dog: An understanding of the authors of our dog’s behavior – nature and the wolf” and sometimes referred to as “The Wolf Whisperer” about dogs — specifically, how to handle your dog (or someone else’s!) around this wonderful holiday season.

Music today:

  • With winter coming sooner than most really like (always!), we will soon be calling for more Heat, just like The Town Heroes.
  • Or perhaps we’ll head down South for a Solar Escape, or is that what Kylo means?
  • Maybe we’ll just stay home and act like Animals, with our pets, and avoid having any In-Flight Safety films..
