Language is not just the sounds we make, but the conversations we have with each other, the stories we share and the bonds they make.
In the first half of today’s show, Jessica Christmas discusses the struggles in holding on to Mi’kmaq and Maliseet language, and the need to improve education for both aboriginal peoples and the general public on this culture-bearing words.
And in the second half, Laurie Mazzerol explores video game playing. From platformers and puzzle games to roleplaying games and FPSs, from multi-million dollar blockbusters to indie games, video games are bigger, better and more popular than ever before. But what about when they are too much?

Fundrive Video: Sparky the Wonder Dog
We’re coming down to the wire! The end of our Fundrive campaign looms near, and we could really use some help..

But he works cheap!

STU Lunchbox: Illegally Downloaded Music & KPOP
Music is one of the most magical things we have as a species. It conveys so much in parallel, and is varied in time, culture, moment, location, mood and so much more.
It’s hard to imagine not having music, but what about how you get it?
In the first half, Conor Brown brings up the dirty little secret that’s not so secret: the illegal downloading of music and other online access to music. Why do we do it? Do we all really do it? And what’s the impact?
In the second half, Yi Fan introduces us all to a flavour of music that you may know, but probably don’t know well: Korean Pop or KPOP. It was made famous recently by Psy’s release of Gangnam Style, but how much more is there to know? How does it compare to North American music?

The Lunchbox Interview: Julian Christie (International TableTop Games Day)
It seems like the entire world is getting interested in games these days.
And that’s a great thing!
With high-profile geeks like Wil Wheaton supporting and inspiring board game playing, people are realizing that getting your friends together around the kitchen table to play a board game is not just for geeks — and it’s tonnes of fun!
My guest today is Julian Christie, a well-established game player and co-head organizer of the local gaming convention Enbicon that made its annual celebration earlier this year. We talk a bit about the success of that event — and the second edition of the event coming later this year! — but he’s also here to talk about the International TableTop Game Day events happening around the world, and right here in Fredericton at the Unplugged Board Games CafĂ©.
Music today:
- I got a little stir-crazy with four days off in a row, and Carleton Stone seems to understand, as they tells us about their experience Climbing Up The Walls from the album Draws Blood.
- And the Lemon Bucket Orkestra gives us some great dancing music in the song presca?anka from moorka.

The Crazy Train Episode #XXXVII
Great show Episode #37 was! We welcomed April in as a snow storm raged outside (for two hours) as we raged inside playing some of the best local Metal the area has to offer.
We had special guests Tyson Davidson and Johnny James on the show. Tyson has been on the show a few times and is one of my favorite guests, so it is sad to hear that he’s leaving town to make his way out West seeking fortune and fame. Tyson’s a helluva talented guy and I’m sure he’ll do well. But once again, it’s a case of someone really talented leaving New Brunswick because there’s nothing here for them.Â
Steve ‘The Buzz Man’ Dunnett was out sick, hope ya feel better soon bud!
We play some great music from Tactus, Siegebreaker, Anesthesia (R.I.P.) and much more.
In Hour II of the show, we kicked it off with some Black Crown Initiate which was followed by Johnny James interview with BCI. Johnny did a bang up job interviewing the band and not only was the audio recorded but ‘Crazy Train’s’ first host Andre Faust recorded Johnny and the band outside City hall on video and put together a real slick piece which was posted on Andre’s site and here’s the link for all of you who missed the audio version (which is also available in this PODcast).
Hour II we played some Black Crown Initiate, Avatar, Slipknot, WASP by request, Queens Of the Stone Age, Venom and much more.
We have 5 days left in our annual CHSR -FM Fundrive! We’d just love it if you peeps from the Metal community really stepped up and donated some cash-o-la to the cause. The Fund drives help keep shows like ‘The Crazy Train’, ‘Seismic Sounds’ and other hard rockin programs on the air. It also helps to maintain our equipment and keeps us up to date with all the technology that goes into running a Campus Community radio station.Â
You can donate at https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/chsr-fundrive-2015
We’re not asking for a lot, $5-$10 is awesome, more is great and there’s some really cool ‘Perks’ available for donating some money, you don’t just give up your cash to us with nothing in return. So click the link, look at the options and as the old ‘Suicidal Tendency’s’ song say, “Send us your Monay’!!
Have a great week!
Also, don’t forget that if you’re in an awesome band or know of an awesome band you’d like to hear or get your music heard, email me at: musicdirectorATchsrfmDOTca!
