Attention: all bands, event managers, book promoters, art show hosts, public debaters, poet readers, swap meet organizers, fundraiser organizers, concert promoters, and any one else who is putting on something in Fredericton:
Dance/Electronica three-piece outfit Rouge came by the studio and Fredericton to help give a reason for students to enjoy a great night. Listen to me try to talk to these great performers before and after a curious makeshift drum set-up and keyboard song played for Yours Truly and.. yourselves! Pictures to come.
Did you miss the LIVE episode of STRANGE ENCOUNTERS?
Well, miss it no more! Here are all the recordings — including the ones that didn’t make it to air. They are currently airing in the time slots for THE WEIRD SHOW (the primary slot it 9am Saturday mornings, but it repeats throughout the schedule), and you can go all the way over the website for that show, if you want..
A HUGE thanks goes out to the Paranormal Researchers of Fredericton (PROF), and especially to Ollie, Bondo and Marvin, who made this idea come to life. Also thanks to Redshirt Ryan of Where Monsters Dwell, my friend Re and John of PROF.
We will be doing more Strange Encounters episodes! Stay tuned for announcements.
I sat down with You Vs Me in their acoustic outfit with Mark Kilfoil operating the boards. We talked about promotional deals, shaking a hand angrily at the sky, and the classic nintendo / atari game “Joust”. Confused?
Then check it out! They were a lot of fun both in studio and at the show, and I’m personally looking forward to seeing them again.
-Matt
Yours truly sat down with Eliza and the Strange while advertising my own crazy show. I’m not going to do it again, it’s already everywhere.
Ahem.
Find out more about what makes this band “The Strange” as we talk about all sorts of inappropriate things (hence it being at Night), as well as discussing the inspirational motions put forward by planetary alignments and Jim Carrey.
Seriously though, this band has a wicked sound that you don’t want to miss. MD out!
PS: Doesn’t the drummer look awesome bathed in light?
Jeremy Fowler of Breakfast Noise and Naked Airwaves sat down with the band Rococode to chat about their musical history, inspiration, web campaigns and more. Be sure to check out this acoustic setup and grove out to the funky tunes. Also, there’s a special treat by yours truly hidden at the very end. Check it out!

Episode #10: In this week’s episode, we speak with two fellow gamers, David Simmonds & James Waters, about some of their various social and computer gaming interests. Into Battlefield 3? So are these cats! We also touch upon some of the stronger and weaker gamer developers, in our opinion, and what makes some of our favourite games so great. This jam session mixes the old with the new, ranging from Age of Empires and C&C: Red Alert to Mass Effect 3. Enjoy!
Episode #5: in our fifth episode, I get the chance to speak with local practicing Psychologist Dr. Jean Craven. As the first head of the Psychological Wellness Center here on UNB campus, Dr. Craven is part of leading a team of practitioners to cost-effectively address community mental health needs. We discuss some aspects of individual versus group therapy, use of predictors in the development of psychopathology coupled with hesitation to diagnose certain disorders in children, and other long-term aims of the Psychological Wellness Center.
Episode #4: in this more poised interview with professor emeritus Dr. Will Van De Hoonard, he discusses his qualitative research about slow scholarship. We hear about the follies of a rushed and projective research system, the reductive nature of the research results in use, and the strengths of more qualitative approaches. This includes increased respect and regard for all the participants, less bias and pre-judgement from the researcher themselves, and slow qualitative research can be done much more cheaply than many traditional types of research relying on hundreds of participants.
Episode #3: in our third episode, we interview sex researcher (and dancing queen) Ashley Thompson. Her work focuses on sexual attitudes. Think you don’t come with any biases about what you do and don’t prefer? The cognitive aspects of Ashley’s work help prove in many cases that you’re wrong! We explore facial perception as well. Clearly, with researchers like Sandra Byers and Lucia O’Sullivan working here, UNB is the place to study sex.
Episode #2: In our second episode of “The Scientific Sandwich”, we continue our interview with Adrianna Del Palacio. We hear more able to struggles of experimental control and trying to re-interpret our data when results aren’t what we would expect. This is part 2 of a two-part interview with Ms. Del Palacio.
Episode #1: In our first episode of “The Scientific Sandwich”, we get a chance to speak with Adrianna Del Palacio about her psychology research. She talks about her research in Depression and Anxiety disorders and their relation to cognition. If CBT is so effective against both genres of disorders, when why do we see interaction effects that reduce effectiveness against more sever types of depression? This is part 1 of a two-part interview with Ms. Del Palacio.
Episode #9: In this week’s episode, we speak with Mike Taggart (or “Stereo Mike” as you may know him) about his varied gaming experiences. We tackle favourite old school nintendo classics, more recent tabletop RPG experiences, and Mike’s GMing experiences running a play-by-post GURPS game.
Episode #8: Do you know what Live-action roleplaying is? Well, in our eighth episode of Role Initiative, with speak with NERO NB Owner Andrew Inness about the LARP he runs and the chain of chapters it’s connected to. If you’re used to an RPG being a pre-programmed video game, a simple board game, or sheer speech and textbooks of a tabletop RPG, a LARP like NERO will surprise you and keep you excited for another great gaming experience with friends!
