David R Elliott LIVE in Studio D

Posted on 2018-03-02 by Bondo Posted in Sessions @ CHSR

David R. Elliott is a prolific new face in Canadian songwriting, with a unique perspective anchored in a childhood split evenly between rural and urban poverty. His respect for the craft of song is inclusive of all genres and his exploration of lower working class struggles is a specifically East Coast answer to Bruce Springsteen, Randy Newman and Ryan Adams.

The Lunchbox Interview: Maria Martais (A Terrible Beauty of Edward Burtynsky)

Posted on 2018-03-01 by encaf1 Posted in The Lunchbox

Good art presents you with something you can interpret. Great art presents contradictions and challenges you to understand not only the art, but yourself.

My guest today is Maria Martais, the Director of the UNB Art Centre. The Centre has two galleries located in the beautiful Memorial Hall on UNB campus, and are frequently featuring great exhibits of meaningful work. On Friday, March 2, the Centre is opening up a new exhibit of photographic works by Edward Burtynsky called “A Terrible Beauty”. In conjunction with the exhibition opening is the beginning of a new music accompaniment series called “FLOW”. Maria joins me to talk about the challenging and fascinating contradictions that will be on display and heard for this exhibition.

“A Terrible Beauty” and “FLOW” both open on Friday, March 2 at 5pm at the UNB Arts Centre, located in Memorial Hall at 9 Bailey Drive on UNB. “A Terrible Beauty” is on display until early April.

RadioU: Sex, Power and the Working Woman

Posted on 2018-02-28 by encaf1 Posted in RadioU, STU Lunchbox

RadioU is a documentary series created by STU Journalism students. Each episode features a “major” and a “minor”, two topics that are somehow related. This series airs every Wednesday at noon, replacing an episode of The Lunchbox.

We’ve heard a lot about sexual harassment in Hollywood and journalism workplaces, but women in low-paying jobs are often the most vulnerable. St. Thomas radio journalism class majors in gender studies this week and questions why it is that the policy “the customer is always right” often ends up with the women being wronged.

And today, we’re minoring in Science and Technology Studies by talking to New Brunswick women who are slowly changing the “boys club culture” of the tech world.

Hosts/Producers: Allison Roy, Maddy McLaughlin
