RadioU: The Sports Episode

Posted on 2018-03-15 by encaf1 Posted in RadioU, STU Lunchbox

RadioU is a documentary series created by STU Journalism students. Each episode features a “major” and a “minor”, two topics that are somehow related. This series airs every Wednesday at noon, replacing an episode of The Lunchbox.

This episode of RadioU majors in sports marketing and minors in sports journalism.

Can the Maritimes support a Canadian Football League franchise? We talk to a former commissioner of the league, the mayor of Halifax and long-time local broadcaster.

And, we’ve been looking into the future of sports journalism in the age of twitter, blogs and rookie publications like the Athletic… is there a future for the old-time, fedora-wearing, beat sports reporter at your daily newspaper?

In our second half-hour, we talk about the playoff picture in the NHL, the chances the Raptors win the NBA title, and the upcoming season for the Blue Jays. Could this be a banner year for Toronto teams?

Hosts/producers: Alex Dascalu and Noah Warren.

The Lunchbox: Tyson & Andrea (Theatre UNB’s “A Patriot For Me”)

Posted on 2018-03-13 by encaf1 Posted in The Lunchbox

Too often, history seems to focus on the wars and larger conflicts; it’s perhaps even more important to see art representing the personal-scale conflicts and the edges of lesser-discussed lives.

My guests today are Tyson and Andrea, two of the students in a senior drama clash and actors in Theatre UNB’s last production of the year, A Patriot For Me. We discuss their roles in this unusual and vibrant historical play, including how the play sheds a different perspective on a time we have our typical ideas about.

The Lunchbox Interview: Hannah, Robbie & Kat (NFTC’s “Songs of the Seer”)

Posted on 2018-03-09 by encaf1 Posted in The Lunchbox

The magic of theatre allows us to travel anywhere, any time — even worlds that don’t exist — because the real power of theatre lives in our minds.

My guests today are Hannah, Robbie and Kat, three writer/director/actors in the upcoming production of Next Folding Theatre Company called “Songs of the Seer”. This production is a highly-collaborative and utterly original combination of the visions of 11 writers working on two different teams based on entirely different perspectives of a fantastical world based on the words “steampunk werewolf”. The trio talks about the creative process of transforming this idea into multiple stories set on stage.

“Songs of the Seer” opens Wednesday, March 14 at 7:30pm at the Charlotte Street Arts Centre and runs each night until Friday night. Be sure not to miss this once-in-a-lifetime experience!

August Ames; The personal interview

Posted on 2018-03-06 by Dustin Taylor Posted in Entrepreneur Hour

Hello listeners!

Welcome to another episode of Entrepreneur Hour on CHSR 97.9 FM.  The podcast where we interview entrepreneurs and share their stories.

It is with great sorrow that we finally release this interview.  We were lucky enough to get the last phone interview with this starlet before her life was taken too soon.  August Ames, or Mercedes Grabowski as many of her friends knew her, will live on as the modern day Marilyn Monroe.  Rest In Peace my friend.
