I am AD Springer, your musical tour guide to The Electric Metropolis, and on this tour I will be featuring an interview with Dana Jean Phoenix (aka DJP), the woman behind the album Synth City and so much more great music you need to listen to; after the interview is a CD giveaway to the first person to email or tweet me the correct answer at the end (the contest is over! Run For Your Life! – the psychobilly rock show of zombie sharks

Did you know that voting has started up and you can vote for your favourite show? Did you know I’m not going to say any biased statements that you should vote for RFYL? Did you know  that I just asked two questions with very strong suggestions followed by a wordy, poorly-written statement in the guise of a question?

Of course you did. So go vote!

On this week’s episode, we revisit some wicked stuff that released at the tail end of 2016 and the beginning of 2017, as well as a lot of summer albums that I haven’t had enough chances to ram down your earholes. So enjoy!

Fundrive 2017 under way!

Posted on 2017-11-15 by encaf1 Posted in fundrive, Special Events

It’s time once again for the annual Fundrive, where we humbly ask you, the listening and reading public, to support our efforts here at the radio station.

You can visit our donation page to see the full details of ways to donate, but here’s the rundown on a couple of things you can be involved with:

  • Crowdfunding on IndieGoGo! We’re doing an ultra-short campaign — just one week! — and your donations can get you really cool perks, from t-shirts, hoodies, and even a reminder on our Wall of Awesome Donors (name still being worked out…).
  • Online Art Auction! A number of the volunteers and staff have put together some cool, hand-made, one-of-a-kind art which you can own! Take a piece of CHSR-related passion home!
  • 12-Hour Radiothon! We’ve gathered together a crew of different show hosts to do an all-day live show! It starts at 10am and ends at 10pm, with shifts every couple of hours. Tune in on November 18 and hear shout-outs and special programs!
  • Of course, you can always tune in to your favourite shows and listen to their reasons why you should support the station. What’s more, if you donate and let us know which show is your favourite, we’re planning some sort of prize for the show or host with the most donations. So, show your support, give them a warm, fuzzy feeling and maybe even a prize!

The Lunchbox Interview: Peter Hicks (Sleepy Driver)

Posted on 2017-11-15 by encaf1 Posted in The Lunchbox

Sometimes it’s the music and not the weather which gives you a delightful shiver..

My guest today is Peter Hicks from the band Sleepy Driver. Their latest album, Sugar Skull, continues their tradition of story-laden roots rock with memorable and slightly disturbing lyrics. Peter joins me to talk about how this album emerged from the ongoing elements present in each of their albums, while growing into its own size.

Sleepy Driver is holding a grand party for their album release, with two nights of performances with many of their friends and collaborators. Visit the Charlotte Street Arts Centre for the shows on Friday, November 24 and Saturday, November 25.
