What Is CHSR Listening To? 2017-07-14

My listening was all over the place, from listening to the double-album of The Police: Live! to bobbing my head to Röyksopp and Deltron 3030. In there I also mixed in a little Billy Bragg and Old Crow Medicine Show, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds and Battles. I just picked up a bunch of post-rock/ambient/experiment/post-apocalyptic stuff as well as Scottish stuff to listen to toward Highland Radio.

My album’s of the week have been Ontario’s Mokomokai’s Poison Whiptail and from Saint John the new No Man’s Throne, plus the Beach Boys ‘Greatest Hits.

 

 

Tammie Hayward – Host of Instant Breakfast and De-Railed

I have been absolutely LOVING the Benjamin Booker EP (I think his vocals and songwriting are amazing)!!! Also loving Civil Wray for the very same reasons!!! Can’t hear enough of these 2 eps!!!!! My other picks for the week that I have been loving are Chillteens and Property//, both Fredericton bands that are so chill and so beautiful!!!! Great summer music!!!!

I revisited two records from The Franklin Electric. Blue Ceilings came out earlier this year and it’s awesome. But This Is How I Let You Down was probably my favourite record from 2014. Everything about it is amazing and still gives me the same feelings listening to it today as it did 3 years ago.

Sometimes, you come to realize that you were in the right place in the right time to see something amazing happen; not everyone realizes they should write it down.

My guest today is Jason Murray, author of the narrative history A Distorted Revolution: How Eric’s Trip Changed Music, Moncton and Me. The book looks back at the phenomenal impact of the band, and Jason discusses some of his experience seeing it all come together, and the reverberations of Eric’s Trip around the world, even so many years later.

The Fredericton book launch of A Distorted Revolution is taking place on Thursday, July 13 at 7pm in the Wilser’s Room. It’s a free event, and you can pick up the book at Winchester Books.

The Crazy Train Episode #117

Playbox Special Episode!All Crazy Train Festival passes have now been won! All contests now closed! Thanks so much for those of you who participated. Unlike “MAJOR” broadcasting radio stations, college/community radio can be hard for contests. In the past we’ve almost had to literally just give prizes away, so it means a lot to me when I say something live on the radio and people participate, it means YOU are listening and for me that’s every kind of ‘Thanks’ in the World.

Episode #117 was an ‘All Playbox’ first hour show. As I said on Facebook, it’s every reason why bands should send us physical copies of their albums. On my post on Facebook, another one of our program hosts totally agreed with me. Not all shows at CHSR are done live on air like the Crazy Train, but many of our top listened to shows are and those program hosts, almost ALL of their music programming is chosen from the physical copies of albums in Studio ‘A’ (our main broadcast studio). These albums are tracked and the airplay they get goes into our charting with Earshot and the North American College/Community radio station chart. So that can be a lot of coverage for you as a band.

On next Saturday’s show, Ezra from Soulstice pops in once again, this time he’s going to talk more about what his new band is about and who they are looking for. We’ll probably also get a bit of a ‘post mortem’ on Soulstice’s last show that was on June 29th.
