The Lunchbox Interview: Benoit Lebel (WishWalk.ca) INTERVIEW ONLY

Posted on 2016-05-19 by encaf1 Posted in The Lunchbox

LunchBox-BenoitLebel-WishWalk2016What does it take to start something epic? A desire to change a little of yourself — and the world..

My guest today is Benoit Lebel. He decided he wanted to try the classic “backpacker’s journey”: walk across Canada. He’s taking 8 months to cross from Newfoundland to British Columbia on foot, raising awareness, support and donations for the Children’s Wish Foundation. He stopped by the studio to talk about what inspired him to do this, his preparation for the journey, and the first two months of his trip.

You can follow Benoit’s adventures on WishWalk.ca . Meet him along the way and donate to the Children’s Wish Foundation.

Uncharted 4 Review

Posted on 2016-05-16 by ICE Posted in Video Game Reviews

Uncharted 4 Review.

Nathan Drake and his pals are back for their latest and final adventure. Is this the end we have all been waiting for or does it get buried with past treasures? Let’s find out

Story: In Uncharted 4 we find our lovable cocky hero retired from his treasure hunting days. Settled down married and working a normal job working at the docks bored out of his mind I might add in this case. That is until Nate’s brother Sam shows up who Nate presumed dead years earlier. Without any time wasted Sam reveals he needs help finding Henry Every’s treasure and he has to do it in a short amount of time due to being indebted to a drug lord in panama.

Gameplay: This is just like all of the other Uncharted games with some new features Which are nothing short of greatness. There is the new rope swing/grappling hook mechanic is absolutely fantastic there is so many ways you can go about it in uncharted 4 you could be pulling something down from a vehicle or swinging around to knock enemies out. The one thing I found about this game is that the shoot outs in this game are very much scattered out more throughout the game which is fantastic and when they do occur they are nothing short of challenging. There was a few shoot outs in this game that I must have died about ten times trying to get past them. When you are not shooting your away through the game you are climbing, jumping driving and even exploring. I find this installment of the uncharted franchise to be the most open at every opportunity I found myself looking in every corner to see if I could find a treasure or an optional conversation.

Conclusion: with every uncharted game we see a different relationship unfold. With 1 we got introduced to the characters, with 2 we seen the relationship between Nate and Elena develop, with 3 we seen the bond between Sully and Nate and in this final installment we see the relationship between Nate and His Brother. Everything about this game is just pure greatness when it comes to video games and other game development studios should follow Naughty Dog’s example when it comes to making games.

Uncharted 4: 10/10

A Perfect job Naughty Dog and Play Station.

The Crazy Train Episode #LXXXVI

Posted on 2016-05-16 by Chris Waddell Posted in The Crazy Train

newCTlogo_03012015On Episode #86 of The Crazy Train, Steve ‘The Buzz Man’ and I welcomed on Miramichi Rock up and comers ‘Lionsault’, who were playing a show Saturday night with ‘Chaos Theory’ and ‘Kilmore’, both bands from Halifax. Lionsault’s album came out in 2015 and was a chart topper here at CHSR for many months!! It’s a killer album, make sure you check them out!

Also in the first hour we were joined by Tyson Davidson and Denny from Tyson’s new hard hitting outfit ‘I Monolith’. While the band has not played any shows yet, they will be performing their first show on Saturday May 22nd at the Charlotte St. Arts Center with ‘Mellevon’, ‘Engage The Threat’ and ‘Forest Soul’ and also appearing at the East Coast Awakening festival this July! Currently they do not have any tracks available, but I’ve heard some excerpts and believe you me, they will be a force to be reckoned with!

In Hour II, we paid special tribute to the Misfits/Danzig. If you haven’t heard the news, Jerry Only (current “owner/operator) of the Misfits and Glen Danzig have finally buried the hatchet (not even physically!!) and are playing some select dates this Summer as ‘The Misfits’. Now this is something that many fans and non fans alike have agreed we would never ever see happen. Given that for years if a journalist asked Glen Danzig about anything Misfits related, they were usually threatened with violence! So, yes, Misfits/Danzig tribute which also featured Jerry Only’s ‘New’ Misfits which did amazingly well with Michael Graves, until as with most Post-Misfits members he quit. From then on in my own opinion anything Only released under the Misfits’ brand was crap… Although they’ve always had great merch!

Here’s the play lists for Episode #86 of the Crazy Train!

Hour I: Crazy Train – Ozzy| Living With the Devil- Lionsault| Lionsault Interview| Shoot ‘Em Up – Lionsault| Silent Insanity – Anesthesia| I Monolith Interview| HLA – Cable Crusher| Killdozer – D.R.G.*NEW| Robits – Darkshrine| Frozen Weapons – Dumpster Mummy| No Chance Parol – Hard Charger* NEW| Have It All – Chaos Theory

Hour II: Static Age/TV Casualty – The Misfits| Initium/Samhain – Samhain| Mother/777 – Danzig| Pig Farmer – Tales From The Tomb| It’s Not Stanley, It’s Stan Lee – Killitorous| Silence In The Snow – Trivium| Open Your Eyes – Sanktuary| Through It All – From Ashes to New

Tune in next Saturday for our interview with East Coast Awakening CEO Dave Manning. Dave was on a few months ago, but only gave us a partial list of who was playing this gargantuan festival on the final weekend in July. This time the flood gates will open and we’ll have the full list of bands and maybe even a give away!

GREAT NEWS!!! The Crazy Train has it’s own GMAIL address now!

So, if you’re in a band, have a new release to debut, have some shows coming up, want to be on our show, by all means email us at crazytrainchsr@gmail.com!

Lionsault – https://lionsault.bandcamp.com/album/are-you-feeling-lucky

I Monolith – https://www.facebook.com/IMonolith2015/?fref=ts

Last year local Fredericton Metal king’s ‘Hero’s Last Rite’ along with Halifax’s ‘Chaos Theory’, ‘Orchid’s Curse’ and Moncton’s ‘Dischord’ had the 4X4X4 Tour which was a smashing success! Well guess what? It’s baccck! Coming to the Capital June 11th!

Plus, don’t forget to get your tickets for the Maritime Metal and Hard Rock festival #4 happening in Windsor, Nova Scotia, Friday and Saturday July 22/23. Get ‘Early Bird’ tickets at http://www.maritimemetalfest.com

Rosie’s Music Review -Richie Young The Story Everyone Knows

Posted on 2016-05-15 by Rosie Posted in Music Reviews

richi young

Richie Young evokes the ghosts of early blues with his debut cd release produced by Jake Duffie and the Underground Alliance.    From the first track, Backyard Doctor, the listener is drawn into a Louisiana Bayou, complete with mouth harp and an awesome acoustic blues sound that only Ritchie can deliver (along with feeling and passion).   Its difficult to highlight any of the tracks as they all stand solid on their own. However, my personal favorites include Blue Note Boogie, St. Andrews Road and Seven Toe Cat. You could ask me tomorrow and that list could change as the songs seem to hit you differently depending on what you are in the mood for.

Richie Young is a blues natural.  It flows in his blood. Luckily, he allows it to flow into our ears and hearts.  Check him out next time he performs near you.  He will have you  eating crawfish off the palm of his hand.

Little Walter and Sonny Boy Williamson would be proud of this cat and his music.   I can see them looking down from the heavens and smiling.

To order his album online, click here (or buy it at one of his shows)

Run For Your Life! – the psychobilly rock show of zombie sharks
On today’s episode we celebrate the fact that Lionsault, Chaos Theory and Killmore are all showing up at the Capital Complex May 14th (even though the Crazy Train is interviewing Lionsault on their show.. but logistics, people, logistics!) and the fact that Mokomokai did an album release. I also found out that one of my all-time favourite bands Tsunami Bomb released a compilation album of all their awesome stuff on bandcamp, so chances are (MYSTERY) I play a few tracks from that album as well.

We also found out that Subztain is doing a music video, talk about Stitched Up Heart’s album release next month, and otherwise say the word “awesome” at least 47 times.

Also, your download is probably finished now, and you’re probably more interested in hearing the episode than reading whatever it is I have here. That said, purple monkey dishwasher.

The Lunchbox Interview: Matthew de Zoete (Colour Film)

Posted on 2016-05-13 by encaf1 Posted in The Lunchbox

LunchBox-ColourFilmPerhaps only farmers have crazier hours than musicians, but what if you are both?

Matthew de Zoete lives on a family farm, but he still considers himself to be a “city-it”. He’s currently recording and touring under the name of Colour Film. I caught up to him via phone today on the road between Riviere de Loup and Fredericton. He’s coming into town to play at Grimross Brewing company at 8:30pm on May 13. We chatted briefly about his inspiration for the new name and the new album, what influences him, and touring away from home.

We heard several tracks from the latest EP: Super 8.

The Lunchbox Interview: Kevin Belyea of David In The Dark

Posted on 2016-05-12 by encaf1 Posted in The Lunchbox

LunchBox-KevinBelyea-DavidInTheDarkEver looked at the act on stage and thought: “They’re cool. I’d like to join them.”?

Kevin Belyea did. He was impressed by the early version of the band David in the Dark, and now plays guitar in the band. He joined me today to talk about the origins of the band, their recent “trial tour” across Quebec and Montreal, and their upcoming album release, “Fire”.

I featured two songs by David in the Dark around the interview: Slap Happy, which comes from their debut EP last year, and the single release Rooftop from their new album Fire.

Catch them on tour at festivals this summer, or go to the album launch show on Friday, May 13 at the Capital, alongside MAYORS and David R. Elliot.

The Crazy Train Episode #LXXXV

Posted on 2016-05-09 by Chris Waddell Posted in The Crazy Train

newCTlogo_03012015Great episode of the Crazy Train, if I do say so myself!

Steve and I welcomed on local Rockers with a passion, Fredericton’s ‘The Panda Bee Catastrophe’ for a great interview, with just about all the members of the band. The band has only been around for a couple years now, starting out as a 80’s/’90’s cover band before slowly wading into the realm of original material. The stations had ‘Workaday Jane’ (that is spelt correct!) for a couple of months now and you may have already heard it. The band is just finishing up recording and getting prepped to embark on a major cross Canada tour! So keep your ears peeled to the Crazy Train and other CHSR programs for news about ‘Panda Bee..’ releases and shows! You can catch them at this years East Coast Awakening happening the very last weekend of July 2016. Check out this episode for all the details.

Here’s the play list for Episode #85!

Hour I: Crazy Train – Ozzy| Workaday Jane – Panda Bee Catastrophe| Souffrance (Radio Debut) – ADN| Loathing Denial – Enemy Designed| Resurface – Tactus| In My Defence – Rosewood Annie| Tide Breaker – Requiomend|

Hour II:  Ghosts – August Burns Red| Implode – SLAYER| King Of The Night Time World – KISS| My Night Sky (NEW) – Devildriver| Efilnikufesin (N.F.L.) – Anthrax| Lockstep – Adrenechrome| Jesus Christ Pose – Soundgarden| Storm Is Coming – GWAR| From The Pinnacle To The Pit – Ghost| Fifth Column – Accuser| Bite My Tongue – All That Remains| Hail The Apocalypse – Avatar

Be sure to tune in next weekend as we’re joined by good friend and somewhat frequent CTrain guest Tyson Davidson. Tyson’s coming on to introduce us to his new band ‘I Monolith’. I’ve heard some samples of their originals and we’re in for a treat!

If you know of a band/are in a band and should be heard on the Crazy Train… Likewise if you have a gig coming up, want to debut your newest tracks, by all means, shoot us an email at musicdirectorATchsrfm.ca and we’ll git it on!
