The Lunchbox Interview: Marcel St Pierre, Author [INTERVIEW ONLY]

Posted on 2016-05-04 by encaf1 Posted in The Lunchbox

LunchBox-MarcelStPierreIt’s an old joke, yet true: how do you become a writer? You write, every day!

Marcel St Pierre took this advice to heart, and turned his pen (or his keyboard) to work for him every day for a year. After that was over, he had material enough to satisfy himself, then compiled the best of it into his new book, Vengeful Hank and Other Short Weird Stories. He joins me on the phone to talk writing, being a comedy creative in Canada, and his route from New Brunswick to Toronto.

The Lunchbox Interview: Heidi Billington on “Successfully Parenting Transitions) [INTERVIEW ONLY]

Posted on 2016-05-04 by encaf1 Posted in The Lunchbox

LunchBox-ParentingTransitionsParenting seems to me to be a mix of art, magic, science, psychology and endurance — but thankfully, there are those who want to help.

My guest today is Heidi Billington, the organizer at the Smythe Street Cathedral of a collection of workshops called “Change Ahead: Successfully Parenting Transitions”. These are aimed at providing parents with knowledge and community when dealing with children in three transitional stages of life. She joined me to talk about what each of the age groups will talk about, her own experiences raising 4 children, and how such groups help fill-in the gaps in the parenting job.

The Lunchbox Interview: Brendan Magee (Harvest Jazz & Blues)

Posted on 2016-04-28 by encaf1 Posted in The Lunchbox

LunchBox-HarvestJazzAndBluesIt’s time to plan for the fall — at least for one week in September!

The Harvest Jazz & Blues Festival is the biggest musical event of the year for Fredericton — in a city which boasts several great music festivals all year round! They recently announced some of the line-up for this year’s production, include The Drive-By Truckers, The Besnard Lakes and Metric. My guest today is Brendan Magee, one of the staff who works year-round to make the festival a success. He joins me to talk about some of the artists who’ve been announced, the year-round process of organizing the festival, and some of the favourite experiences he’s had at festivals past.

Music today:

  • From their brand-new album Eyelet/Islet, we heard Faux Real by Fredericton’s own LAPS.
  • Let’s hear a little blues for my guest! From the compilation Fresh Baked Blues we heard Shakin’ House Blues by catl.
  • And one of the exciting guests at the Harvest Festival this year is Metric, so from their latest album Pagans In Vegas, we heard Blind Valentine.

The Lunchbox Interview: Matt Carter (Grid City Magazine)

Posted on 2016-04-27 by encaf1 Posted in The Lunchbox

LunchBox-GridCityMagazine-LetsTalkAboutNBMusicCan you be too close to something to give a complete opinion?

It’s a good thing to be supportive, but that can mean sometimes it can be difficult to point of where improvements can be made. It can also be hard to take criticism from those who are closest to you — and sometimes the praise is also hard to accept, too.

My guest today is Matt Carter. About a year-and-a-half ago, he started up a website called Grid City Magazine, dedicated to celebrating the great arts and entertainment this city has to offer, and embodying the answer to the question “What is there to do in this city?”

Since then, it’s grown to be an important part of the arts scene, but recently, Carter has been thinking about the critical reflection that is needed on art. He recently launched “Let’s Talk About NB Music”, a project to collect together people interested in helping provide that critical voice. He joins me to talk about the idea behind the project, his work on Grid City Magazine, and his thoughts on the place of criticism in art.

Music today:

  • Double Experience rocked us nerd-style with AAA from their latest album Unsaved Progress.
  • The new album by David Myles is Here Now, and we here him sing about medical-themed desire with Doctor Doctor.
  • And while we are talking about NB Music, why not play something from It’s Always Sunny In NB? I chose one of my favourites from the album, the tremendous Doom by Before the War.

Ratchet and Clank Review

Posted on 2016-04-22 by ICE Posted in Video Game Reviews

Ratchet and Clank ReviewRatchet and clank ps4 cover

Story: The famous lombax (Ratchet) and his trusty robot (Clank) sidekick are back on the PS4.With a re-imagining of a game that is based on the up and coming movie which is based on a game. You start out as just Ratchet on planet Valdin and you attempt to try out for the intergalactic ranger’s protector of the Solana Galaxy. You become part of the intergalactic ranger crew hoping to be the next big hero as you try to take down the evil Drek.

Gameplay: Ratchet and clank is an action platformer that is out of this world from the art style to the weapons. I loved blasting enemies with every futuristic weapon I had while flying around with my jet pack and exploring the beautiful colorful planets. There is nothing cooler then sliding on the rails in Ratchet and Clank or competing in the hover board races.

Conclusion: Ratchet and Clank is a game that is not to be missed on the ps4. Whether you’re a new comer to the series or a longtime fan of the series it will provide a challenge which was great because it took me back to the ps2 days when games were still quite challenging. This game is Fun, Beautiful, Funny and Action packed it’s a game the whole family can enjoy.

Score 9.5/10 A MUST BUY!!!

Good Job Insomniac Games and Playstation.
