Street Fighter 5 Review

Posted on 2016-02-16 by ICE Posted in Video Game Reviews

Street Fighter 5 Review

The Beloved action arcade fighter franchise is back on the new generation consoles. Does it deliver the punch it always as or does it get knocked out of the tournament? Let’s find out.

When I first picked up this game I did not know what to expect. I had not played a Street Fighter game in a very long time. As soon as I started playing I remembered why I loved the franchise and why I loved fighting games. Before I knew it hours had passed of me throwing fire balls and windmill kicks and it had only felt like twenty minutes. With some new additions to the game such as characters who were amazing and fun to use it made the game feel so much better to play. Trying to master all the special moves of each character was a challenge and extremely fun to do. It’s something I have never tried to do in a video game before I had a blast doing it. The modes were great too such as story it gave you about three or four fights with each character. You got a comic like story to go along with the character and how they reached this certain point in their story. There is also Survival which is great with different skill sets and after each match you can buy certain elements to improve your health for your next match or make your attacks and defense much stronger during this mode I made it to match number 25 in this mode. There is also the classic VS mode where you pick up two controllers and fight against your friends. The only mode this game did not have that I was disappointed in that did not have an arcade mode.

Conclusion: This game is amazing, Fun and reminds me why I love fighting games. The art style, arenas and characters are all fantastic so I thank Capcom and Play station for bringing me back to this franchise and making me love fighters again.

Score 9/10 A MUST BUY!!

The Lunchbox Interview: Jean Surette, Music NB Workshop [FULL EPISODE]

Posted on 2016-02-15 by encaf1 Posted in The Lunchbox

LunchBox-MusicNBDid you know that you can do what you love, and that money will follow?

It’s possible — but you still have to treat it like a job. You have to take it seriously, and you have to include within your passion the forms to fill out, research to be done, and time on the administration side.

This is part of what will be discussed at an upcoming workshop being presented by Music NB, entitled “Do What You Love And The Money Will Follow”. The workshop will be held at Cafe Loka on Wednesday, February 17th from 7pm until 9pm.

My guest today is Jean Surette, the Executive Director of Music NB. We talked about Music NB in general and how he came to be involved (from drummer to executive!), as well as some of the pitfalls, concerns and necessary tasks to making your music your job that will be tackled in the upcoming workshop.

Music today:

  • Because it’s so cold, I felt an antidote was in order, so I chose Caliente by Stephen Lewis from his album Life Is A Garden.
  • Then, it was the power of music with Emotional from Beat Cops, off their new album Mean Streets.
  • And finally, because we’ll need to get over the weather, I chose AA Wallace‘s Shake It Out from the brand-new album In Alpha Zones.

STU Lunchbox 2016-02-10: Provincial Budget and Economy

Posted on 2016-02-15 by encaf1 Posted in STU Lunchbox, The Lunchbox

STULunch-2016-01-economyMoney may not buy happiness, but it does make the world move — but how much does the world need to move the money?

On the first of the new season of the STU Lunchbox, journalism students Nathan Delong and David Bardwell follow the money: in the first half, they examine the recent NB provincial budget, and it’s impacts for post-secondary education; and in the second half, they look at the New Brunswick economy, and it’s reflection on the environment.

CHSR To Hold News Scripting Workshop!

Posted on 2016-02-12 by Bondo Posted in Announcements

CHSR is to hold a News Script Writing Workshop March 3, 2016 at 7pm in our station, presented by Bell Media’s Brad Perry. This workshop is free and open to the public but space is limited. If you’re looking to attend please RSVP your space by emailing StationManager@chsrfm.ca.

What is CHSR Listening To?

Posted on 2016-02-11 by Bondo Posted in What Is CHSR Listening To?

Rosewood GrooveRoger Jean, Swell Guy – I’ve been listening to Rosewood Groove quite a bit lately. Their debut self-titled EP just came out and these young performers are just as good as anyone currently in the Fredericton music scene and they are only going to get better. They have a wonderful unique flavor of mandolin infused roots music and their lyrics are fabulous as well.

minotaursErin Bond, Station Manager – A few albums I’ve been into lately are Basia Bulat‘s newest record Good Advice, and Minotaur‘s Weird Waves. Good Advice is a great pop album, a little different from the folky music I’ve usually associated her to, and Weird Waves is such a fun jam-band kind of record, I was groovin’ and boppin’ the entire time listening to it!

BarkmarketChris Waddell, Music Director – I’ve been listening to DJ Keoki and Barkmarket, one of my all time favourite bands from the 1990’s, and Texas is the Reason… Both Barkmarket and Texas Is The Reason are no longer together. But some of the best Alt-Rock music ever created IMO.

rehumanizerMark Kilfoil, Program Director – Just picked up some new (to me!) albums, so I’ve been listening to the latest prog-rock/electronic Maserati album Rehumanizer — good, but I like the previous albums better — a couple of minimal, moody industrial/jazzy mood soundtrack-like albums from Blackfilm (the self-titled release and a release with Eraldo Bernocchi called “Along The Corridors”) — creepy, atmospheric, inspiring horror visions. And I’ve had the chance to listen to David Bowie‘s last testament, Black Star, a couple of times — talk about haunting and beautiful!

The Lunchbox Interview: James Jordon (The War Amps)

Posted on 2016-02-09 by encaf1 Posted in The Lunchbox

LunchBox-WarAmps2016Have you got your tags on your keys?

For as long as I can remember, little keytags have appeared in the mail, and it was important to attach them to my keys, “just in case”. I’ve always feared losing my keys, and knowing that someone has my back was reassuring.

But.. I never really knew much about them. I knew, vaguely, that it was somehow connected to the War Amps. I suspect that I’m not alone in that ignorance. My guest today helped to explain it. James Jordan works with The War Amps and is, himself, a recipient of the program since just a baby. He tells me of the history of The War Amps, the brilliant creation of the key tag program, the impact and need for the support provided by The War Amps, and some of the stories of people whose keys have been found through the program.

So remember: when the keytags show up in the mail: put them on your keys right away! (It makes a good companion to our own Friends of CHSR Discount Card, too!)

Music today:

  • I couldn’t resist the synchronicity of the song title (O Snow) and the beauty of the sound from Trent Severn (from the album Trillium).
  • And following a rant about climate change (and its under-representation in political debate), I kinda do a mic drop with The Motorleague‘s A Little Too Obvious, from their latest album Holding Patterns.
