The Crazy Train Episode #LXVII

Posted on 2015-12-16 by Chris Waddell Posted in The Crazy Train

newCTlogo_03012015On this weekends episode of the Crazy Train we were joined by our special guest and long time friend Rusty Von Hammerdown. Rusty (AKA: Grant Forsythe) hosts a kick ass Punk Rock radio show on ‘Woody Radio’. Rusty’s not much into the Metal scene, but he was the guy who introduced me to the Hardcore/Cross-Over Metal scene ‘back in the day’. So we both talk a lot about music and the local scene. Rusty is also the singer of local Punk Rock legends/icons ‘Neighborhood Watch’ who had just done their 30th anniversary reunion tour in October 2015. Always great to hang out with Gran… erm I mean Rusty, he’s about one of the most crass guys I know on the planet and I love the guy for it! Back in 1994, Grant and I used to host a local Punk Rock/Alternative music show called ‘Institutionalized’ after the show’s original host and creator, Nick Oliver, moved to Halifax.

Lots of great Metal on Episode 67! When do we not play awesome Metal!?

Here’s the play list for the show:

HOUR I:

Ozzy – Crazy Train | Hashtag This! (Fredericton) – The Fall | Doom Machine (Halifax) – Fight ‘Til The End and Beyond The Distant Sun | Chaos Theory (Halifax) – Evaporate |Nihilo Machina (North Shore NB) – Last Messiah | Last Kick (Halifax) – Monster | Rosewood Annie (Halifax) – Philadelphia Collins | Death Valley Driver (P.E.I.) – Drowning In Silver | Adrenechrome (Orillia, Ont.) – Hideous Appetites |

HOUR II:

Abath – Count The Dead *NEW | Cattle Decapitation – Land Of the Severed Meatus | KMFDM – A Drug Against War | In Memory of Celtic Frost (Tribute album) – Circle of Tyrants | Destruction – Tears Of Blood | Mercyful Fate –  Come To The Sabbath | White Chapel – Father Of Lies | Satan – Time To Die | Fear Factory – Genexus | White Wizard – White Wizard | Faith No More – We Care A Lot

I’ve got some great news for all of you! There will be NO Crazy Train Christmas Craptacular this year!

I did one last year and I felt all of the Christmas songs remade in Metal to be just piles of stinky shit. Sure they are Christmas songs and sure it’s Christmas, but those songs suck. They are stupid and only sound good in their standard genre. SO, NO CHRISTMAS SONGS ON THE CRAZY TRAIN… Ok, well maybe one, the hair Metal band ‘Hair Force 1′ does a great ’12 Days of Christmas’ so that’ll be it.

If you have a band or know of a band that should be heard on the Crazy Train, send your or their tracks and information to: musicdirectorATchsrfm.ca! And we’ll git ya on the air.

By playing your music on CHSR it can chart Nationally, so if you think, “Radio is dead” or that it’s a crap medium, YOUR wrong! Hero’s Last Rite, Chaos Theory, Brother are all Atlantic bands that have charted Nationally due to airplay and exposure from CHSR.

Please share this with your friends and fans! By spreading the news, we spread your Metal!

Sleeping Dogs Definitive Edition Review

Posted on 2015-12-16 by ICE Posted in Video Game Reviews

Sleeping dogs gets a high Definition make over on the next gen consoles (PlayStation and Xbox one). Does it hold up as well this time around or should it just make a turn around and go back in time let’s find out.

Story: In this deep amazing story you play as Wei Shen an undercover cop in the sun on yee triads in Hong Kong. Wei Shen gets chosen for this job because of his history with the triads he grew up with. You begin by becoming a foot soldier for Winston Chu a red pole in the sun on yee triads and moving your way up the ranks by showing your loyalty to Winston and your water street gang brothers. Your mission in the story of this game is to bring down the sun on yee triads. While in this game you notice some tension come between you and your triad brothers and your fellow police officers, which you really get to feel like the mentality of what it’s like to be undercover and the stress you go under in the process.

Gameplay:  This game is not your just typical third person action game this is a truly unique experience. Not only does this game deliver a punch to the face it gives you a round house kick to the head full of excitement. You use Kung Fu as your main aresenal of weaponry, with some shooting mechanics as well in the game.  There are styles you may choose from in this game pertaining to different outfits such as wing chun, drunken boxing and Jeet Kune do. This is an open world game but this is not your typical open world game its crowded and exciting with lots to do. Like racing, gambling, karaoke, fight clubs and chicken fighting (yes that is right chicken fighting) alongside that you can do cop jobs on the side to increase your rank as a cop which has great unlockables. Also your triad ranks help you unlock upgrades as well. When you are done a mission in the game you get a score which you can always do over if you want to increase your score on a certain mission.

Verdict: while this game in my mind is a master piece it’s not all good while playing this game I wish there was more boss battles, gang battles and underground fight clubs. The next gen versions of this game are a bit glitchy with a freezing loading time for a few minutes, random things falling from the sky on fire and some really weird stickies. But for an martial arts cinema buff like myself this game is a dream come true I give this game a 9 out of 10.

Good job United front games and Square Enix

What is CHSR Listening To?

Posted on 2015-12-14 by Bondo Posted in What Is CHSR Listening To?

Program Director, Mark Kilfoil

EsmerineEnjoying the new album by Esmerine, Lost Voices. I keep stopping whatever I’m doing just to luxuriate in it. Also quite thrilled to discover The Flowers of Hell in our playbox, and have been working my way through their catalog from Aria 51 (the current album) backward. Tremendous!

Station Manager, Erin Bond

Eastern magneticsRecently listened to an EP from Toronto band Eastern Magnetics. Fairchild & Blade has this great vintage rock sound with elements of psych rock thrown in, but not in a Monomyth/Cousins way. This is rock music exactly how I like it.

Music Director, Chris Waddell

Chaos TheoryChaos Theory‘s We Are Disaster, THE most kick butt album to come out of the Maritime’s since Hero’s Last Rites‘ The Mirrors Face! Crank IT!

All around swell guy, Roger Jean

SultansOfStringSultans of String has a new album out called Subcontinental Drift. I thoroughly enjoyed listening to these guys. It really brings out a one world music formula that breaks down musical and cultural boundaries.

The Lunchbox Interview: John Mahler (Winter Driving)

Posted on 2015-12-11 by encaf1 Posted in The Lunchbox

LunchBoxJohnMahlerWinterDrivingYou know it’s Winter, right?

At least, as far as your car is concerned, you should probably accept the change in seasons. My guest today is John Mahler, columnist and driving expert. He told me all about the things I should know about getting my car ready for winter driving, including tires, heating, and remembering to take it slow. Oh, and he definitely recommends Blizzak Tires.

Music today:

  • It was quite pea soup today, so I had to play The Fog Song by David Bouzouki from the excellent compilation It’s Always Sunny in New Brunswick.
  • In despair, however, I turned to a classic song well redone: the uplifting Cloudbusting, original done by Kate Bush and here reproduced by Matthew Good, with special guest Holly MacNarland.
  • And to keep us feeling good, I ended with Stephen Lewis sharing my thanks to you with Golly Gee Thanks from Life Is A Garden.

CFN 2015-09-19 coverartLife might be like a river..

You may stay in the boat and let the river take you where it will, while you stare in despair at the shore passing by..

You may wrestle against the water and beach the vessel, striding off and leaving the river flowing defiantly behind you..

Or you might lay back and observe the wonder of the stars, content that life will go where it will, but you mind will be free..

  • From Walls/Oram‘s album Sound Houses, we heard Strange Lines, And Distances.
  • We heard 1 Yr Anniversary from their self-titled album, with the song gargantua road.
