The Lunchbox Interview: Jessi Taylor (RJNB) on The Naught-Aversary

Posted on 2015-11-26 by encaf1 Posted in The Lunchbox

LunchBox-RJNBNauthaversary2015How do you celebrate something which doesn’t happen?

One approach is to combine humour, determination and positiveness.

Those are words that could describe the Naught-Aversary, a celebration of the lack of support and continuing barriers to access to address reproductive issues like abortion and sex education. This event is being hosted by Reproductive Justice NB tonight at The Blue Door restaurant at 5pm, complete with a hollow cake filled with empty promises. My guest today is Jessi Taylor from RJNB (fb). We talked about the issues still unresolved, the support still not present, and the event tonight to honour those who have helped move things forward.

Music today:

  • Stone Iris gave us some Mercy,
  • Dylan Menzie asked the question on our minds: I Wanna Know,
  • and The Sole Pursuit reminded us that You Get The Me I Give You.

The Lunchbox Interview: Lisa Ann Ross (Solo Chicken Productions) on Cringefest

Posted on 2015-11-25 by encaf1 Posted in The Lunchbox

LunchBox-Cringefest2015Have you ever bared your soul on paper?

Most people, I suspect, have described their dreams and goals, recorded their elation and vented their frustrations into a journal or diary. Maybe it’s been thirty years since you last looked at the book which holds those memories, but when you do..

You probably cringe.

Now, do that on stage, in front of an audience…

That’s the premise for what is likely to be a hilarious, heartwarming and quite embarrassing night at The Wilser’s Room this coming Sunday (November 29) at 7:30pm. The Cringefest fundraiser is raising money for artist’s fees for residences through Solo Chicken Productions. My guest today is Lisa Ann Ross from Solo Chicken Productions, who shared one of her own dramatic journal entries and talked about the instinct to document our lives in excruciating terms.

Music today:

  • We explored the Uncanny Valley with Fake Tears;
  • We were told to Never Forget by Andy Brown;
  • We realized a Morning World in a Teen Daze.

TWS335: Hal-Con 2015 Interviews Part Two

Posted on 2015-11-18 by weirdshow@gmail.com (the Encaffeinated ONE) Posted in The WEIRD Show

TWS335 logoWho are the people behind the voices, the characters, the stories we love so much? Do they recognize the impacts they make? Are they still real people?

These are some of the kinds of questions my mind suggests to me when I get a chance to interview people who are in a considerably more rarified air than I am, who work and live within the world of entertainment in a way I cannot fully imagine.

This is the second episode of interviews I conducted at Hal-Con 2015 in Halifax, NS. In this episode:

  • I talked to Gavin Buhr about becoming a stunt man — and how he broke the news to his mother;
  • I talked to Emily Perkins about what playing a werewolf’s sister was a conscious reflection of being, and deciding to step out of the limelight;
  • I talked to Lenore Zann about the crossover between her work as a politician and as an actress;
  • I talked to Jeff Russell about the otherworldly creatures portrayed in his Cthulhic bestiary.

The Crazy Train Episode #LXIII

Posted on 2015-11-17 by Chris Waddell Posted in The Crazy Train

newCTlogo_03012015

A Rockin’, quakin’ yet poignant Crazy Train. We opened the show with Motorhead’s ‘Iron Fist’ in tribute to Phil Taylor, former drummer for Motorhead from 1974-1984 and then from 1987-1992.

In hour I we played some Chaos Theory, Hero’s Last Rite, No Man’s Throne – These 3 bands will be playing the Capital November 21st as part of Chaos Theory’s CD release tour. The album ‘We Are Disaster’ has already charted at CHSR-FM. We also played some Feral, 88 Mile Trip and much more.

Hour II, we played more Motorhead, Voivod, new Iron Maiden and a lot more head crushing Metal.

I’ll be posting the play list in the next day or so!

This weekend coming up, if you don’t make it to the Capital for the Chaos Theory CD release, you can always head out to the Hollywood Star Room to catch Diablo Strange, Moment of Inertia with the Tri-City Villains.

If you know of a band or your in one and want your music heard on the airwaves (We do charting that could get your song on National charts), be sure to send us an email to musicdirectorAThsrfm.ca and we’ll git it on for you. The same goes for shows, got one coming up? Let us know!!

If you enjoy the show, please join our Facebook page and share the show with your friends or enemies!

‘Til next week! As Steve ‘The Buzz Man’ Dunnett says, “Keep it Metal!”
