SAVVIE.jpgMarch 10, 2015 – Savannah Leigh Wellman, aka SAVVIE, took the time to chat with Bondo about how her new album “Night Eyes” wasn’t a deliberate departure from her folkier past in Redbird, but more of a natural progression. Collaborating with The Harpoonist and the Axe Murderer‘s Matthew Rogers (who also produced the album) when it came to songwriting also influenced the albums sound. Many tracks, especially the bluesy-noir “I Fall Again” has a definite Black Keys vibe going on.

Also just past International Women’s Day which is celebrated March 8th, SAVVIE talks about the struggles of being a female musician in a music genre predominantly dominated by men, and why being a female is a silly limitation for anyone to put onto themselves.

No longer waiting for someone else to make it happen SAVVIE has taken her music career into her own hands.

Sexy, gritty, “Night Eyes” is a must listen.

HumansMarch 3, 2015 – Humans are a lo-fi electro “basement house” duo based in Vancouver with their first full length release under their belt. And their highly anticipated record Noontide does not disappoint.

Bondo had the chance to get both Robbie Slade and Peter Ricq on the phone for a brief chat about their current tour with many North American dates, how this tour is better than their previous tours, and if you check them out March 13th at The Capital you should probably prepare for balloons?

This week, Paul Pulford, former Musician-In-Residence UNB, returns to perform a duet with the current Musician-In-Residence, Nadia Francovilla, in a concert named Remember.

Sarah Beth Shiplett from UNB’s Centre For Musical Arts joins me to talk about the upcoming show. We also talk about the form of musical duo, the style of cello and violin, and many more musical interlude topics!

  • Wishing it about the weather doesn’t make it so, but I pretend to declare winter to be Over Again, with the song by Human from Noontide.
  • And while the style isn’t classical, when I think of violin music I come back to Icestorm by Free To Grow (from their self-titled album). We’ll be doing a session with them in the coming months, so keep an ear out for that!

My guest today is Don Mackay of the Fredericton North Rotary Club. They’re putting on the 2nd Annual Fredericton Ball Hockey Tournament [Poster] in May as a fundraiser for Rotary. There’s an early-bird rate to get your team registered by March 15!

We talk all about the sport of ball hockey, from the setup of the tournament to the setup of a player. Be prepared to find your part of the pavement and play!
