CAFFEEN! playlist for 2013-05-04: “To Name A Thing”

Posted on 2013-05-04 by encaf1 Posted in CAFFEEN!

CFN 2013-05-04 coverartIn ancient times, it was believed that “to name a thing is to have power over it.” While it generally was applied to demons, angels and (in some cases) science, perhaps art and music are the most appropriate places to apply this trick today.

What follows are songs whose names intrigued me. All of the songs I have heard many times, but the titles were forgotten.

Until now…

  • Lake Orchard by Loscil from the album Endless Falls.
  • Turban Cowboy by Moksha Ensemble from the album Lady Sun.
  • Brad Quinn, Medicine Man by Precious Fathers from the album Alluvial Fan.
  • Aural Florida (approach) by Shalabi Effect from the album Shalabi Effect.
  • Al-jazebra by Kuato from the album Free EP.
  • Artificial Intelligence by 35007 from the album Sea of Tranquillity.
  • Aqua Love Ice Cream Delivery Service by Mahogany Frog from the album Senna.

The Cutting Room Floor is the Show of the Month – May

Posted on 2013-05-02 by Nuchtchas Posted in Show of the Month, The Cutting Room Floor

CuttingRoomFloorLogo

We regret to inform you that poetry review by Danny Trejo will not be posted this month, instead we bring you, The Cutting Room Floor:

What made you start your show?

We <Scott and Adam> were in the same class in college and are both fans of movies. The name of the show took a while to decide on. the other two options we could have gone with were “Allan Smithee presents” and “Duce ex machina” Cutting room floor seemed more appropriate.

Tell us a little about your hosts?

We are two guys who have seen more movies than is probably healthy.

Who would be your dream guest on your show?

I would say the dream guest would be Danny Trejo. <If you’ve listened to only a few of the episodes of The Cutting Room Floor you will most likely hear his name come up.>

What made you decide to come to CHSR to air your show?

I first brought the idea of a radio show to Scott after winning a prize from “where monsters dwell”.

A top hat wearing T-Rex?

Our shows mascot “Fancy Dan” was designed by our good friend Sarah Caldwell.

“The Cutting Room Floor” – Join Adam and Scott as we talk about some of the best and worst movies of all time. Listen in on Tuesdays from 5 – 6 (Atlantic Time) only on CHSR. Like them on Facebook

The Lunchbox: Transhumanism

Posted on 2013-04-29 by encaf1 Posted in The Lunchbox

Today’s Lunchbox was a casual discussion of transhumanism: the idea that we may one day (perhaps not so far from today) transfer our very beings into computer form, with intermediate steps of increasing implants and cybernetic augmentation..

Join Bobby and I for what is not perhaps your average lunch-time conversation, eh? 🙂

Posted on 2013-04-27 by encaf1 Posted in CAFFEEN!

Of all the places I’ve been, it’s the lands of dreams that I wish to return to the most. These lands are harder to find again, and often aren’t what you remember, only what you imagine you remember..

But I found her! The women I met before.

And somehow..

I found out her name.
