RFYL Episode – AdviceEP064
We’ve survived another week, this time with even more new and cool stuff to promote. On this week’s episode we get far more Maritimey than I care to suggest, as you’ll pick up just on the first song choice. Also, we’re pretty heavy and it picks up fast – so if you’ve been waiting for a headbanger, here we go!
Nothing profound here. Now if you don’t mind, it’s liquor store time.
Playlist:
Liquor Store – The Standstills

Bad Habit – Secondhand Habit
Legends Never Die – The Castor Troys
Better Days / Personality – Powder for Pigeons

HitG 014: Creating Atmosphere
- “You walk down a 10′-wide hallway made of stone. There is a wooden door on the North wall, and another on the East wall.”
- “[Dims the lights.] The dim corridor would stand three of you, shoulder-to-shoulder. Your footsteps echo off charred and pitted stone walls. The sound of your footsteps echoes unnervingly in this tight space. Ahead, you can see a well-carved solid wood door, rusted iron hinges barely holding it in place. Along one wall, another door is recessed slightly into the wall, obviously much newer than the other, made of fresh-looking planks of wood. [Lights cedar incense.]”
When we play roleplaying games, we are building a world that largely lives in your head. What can we do to our environment and to our language to help construct that world in a more visceral way? We talk about building atmosphere at the table.

The Lunchbox Interview: James Boyle (Atlantic Podcast Summit 2019)
Podcasting is really about sharing stories, ideas and art — and I think Maritimer’s are pretty natural at it.
My guest today is James Boyle, co-founder of the upcoming Atlantic Podcast Summit, to be hosted in Halifax, NS on the weekend of May 4, 2019. James shares with me his reasoning behind why this event is needed now, how podcasting has grown and continues to grow in the Maritimes, and what to expect at the conference.
The Atlantic Podcast Summit runs the weekend of May 4, with special events on May 3rd and 5th. It is hosted in the Convention Centre in Halifax, NS.

The Lunchbox Interview: Rowan Miller (NotaBle Acts 2019)
We should be all encouraged to share our stories — and perhaps transform some of them into stories told through unconventional theatre.
My guest today is Rowan Miller, the Administrative Manager of Notable Acts. For the past 18 years, Notable Acts has challenged playwrights from across the province to create new theatre productions. With a focus on supporting artistic growth in theatre — particularly in new playwrights — Notable Acts has inspired numerous folks to create innovate, local and amazing theatre, and helped them transform their abilities.
Notable Acts is currently looking for playwrights in its contest phase, which ends on Shakespeare’s birthday of April 23rd. Following that, the winning plays will be workshopped and developed to appear in their festival in late July.

We all go through life trying to figure out who we are; sometimes, the world seems to get in the way of that.
