The Lunchbox Interview: Scott Shannon (Nasty Shadows presents A Story Jones)

Posted on 2019-04-30 by encaf1 Posted in The Lunchbox

Theatre has its traditions, and one of it’s traditions is to try to change everything about theatre.

My guest today is Scott Shannon, co-founder of Nasty Shadows Theatre Company, and writer/director/actor of their upcoming production A Story Jones. He joins me to talk about how this play got started as a tribute, how it has grown collaboratively, and how he seeks to try to be a very different kind of theatre company.

A Story Jones opens at 7:30pm on May 1 at Memorial Hall on UNB Campus, and is staged for only two days before moving on to Saint John and Moncton. Each performance has a deliberately limited 20 seats, so be sure to get your ticket right away.

RFYL Episode – PledgeEP066

Posted on 2019-04-26 by Matt Nightingale Posted in Run For Your Life!

Run For Your Life! – the psychobilly rock show of zombie sharks

On this week’s episode, we fix our canoes with a radio and enjoy a nice sail downtown in flooded Fredericton to enjoy more solid tunes!

Most of the flooding has stopped.

But, just for pretends, let’s just assume that the worst is upon us and we must now swim for our lives while the greatest music of our time continues to come at us in one hour intervals! Why not!

Pretend!

The Lunchbox Interview: Jared Durelle (Time With Water Defenders)

Posted on 2019-04-26 by encaf1 Posted in The Lunchbox

We must live together on this world in order to live in this world; that means honouring the present, understanding the past, and respecting each other.

Jared Durelle returns to the show to tell us about his experiences visiting the indigenous group in Nova Scotia protesting the Atcon Gas processing plant. He shares some of the history of the agreements in the area, the fears of the pollution that could damage the Shubenacadie River, and the three different kinds of reactions he received from different groups in the area: good, bad and suspicious.

The Lunchbox Interview: Corinski & Nate (#SWIPERS)

Posted on 2019-04-24 by encaf1 Posted in The Lunchbox

What is theatre when you don’t know anything about it? Well, you’re just going to have to watch it to find out!

My guests today are Corinski (playwright, director) and Nate (script supervisor, actor). Corinski has written a new play called #SWIPERS which is about.. Well, let’s just say that it starts by being a modern rom-com, and then becomes.. something. Listen as we reveal nothing of the mystery of this experimental play, aside from the fact that it may — or may not — be experimental.

And then Star Wars is mixed in.. somehow.

#SWIPERS opens May 2nd and runs at 7:30pm nightly until May 4th at the Black Box Theatre at STU.

The Lunchbox Interview: Christine, Brett & missing pets

Posted on 2019-04-24 by encaf1 Posted in The Lunchbox

Pets are often more than just furniture or artwork on display: they are a part of our family.

My guest today is Christine (with silent partner Brett). After a series of unfortunate events, they ended up losing their four pets to a local SPCA and have had difficulty getting them back. One of their four animals has been returned, their dog, but the three cats have already been released to different households. Christine shares us the nature of her furry friends and makes an appeal to have them returned.

If you are one of the adoptive families and wish to contact Christine and Brett about the cats, reach out to them via their Facebook page.

The Lunchbox Interview: Marie Maltais (Cascade: Plastic Panel Discussion)

Posted on 2019-04-23 by encaf1 Posted in The Lunchbox

So far, we’ve only got one planet. And just because it’s covered with water, that doesn’t mean we should take it for granted — or worse, pollute it.

My guest today is Marie Maltais, Director of the UNB Art Centre. For several years, the Centre has sought to raise awareness about our world’s (mis)treatment of water, and this year’s focus returns to the impact of waste plastic on our environment. She joins me to talk about some of the impact of the art work created to demonstrate these concerns, and about the upcoming panel discussion about who we can help avoid a future buried in ugly trash and spoiled water by taking control of our plastic.

The Panel Discussion will be on April 25 at 7pm at Memorial Hall on UNB campus. It is free to attend, and all are invited. Panel guests include Brad Janes (Fredericton Regional Solid Waste Commission); Charlene Mayes (Professor of Environmental Biology, UNB; David Coon (NB Green Party MLA); Jeff Carr (Minister of Environment and Local Government and NB MLA); Kelly Green, (STU Sustainability); Pierre Landry (Encorp Atlantic) and Stephen Chase (Chair of Public Safety and Environment for the City of Fredericton).
