AKA Why the Roughriders are dumb and Eskimos Coach Jason Maas is bonus dumb.

– USports National Semifinals
AKA How Acadia got more screwed than they already were.

– CFL Expansion to Halifax
AKA … Yes, it’s happening.

– MLS Playoffs
AKA Maybe you shouldn’t follow an angry player towards his dressing room.

– World Cup Qualifying

Posted on 2017-11-24 by Bondo Posted in ParaPhrasing

Halloween is the second most commercial holiday in North America, estimated that Americans spent $9.1 BILLION on candy, costumes, and decorations in 2017. THAT’s the only terrifying thing about Halloween.

But, how did the holiday become so popular? How did it become associated with ghosts? Where did the holiday even come from?

Listen in while Marvin, Erin and John talk about the history of Halloween and why we all love it so much.

Posted on 2017-11-23 by encaf1 Posted in The Lunchbox

Every once in a while, it’s better to look back and relive some of the past good times — that way, they live again.

Returning again, it’s Emma Chevarie, this time back to not only look forward to the upcoming double-night extravaganza that is the Sugar Skull CD Release celebration for Sleepy Driver, but also to reminisce about the great shows she’s been to in a full year of shows.

Emma Chevarie is the creator of Music Runs Through It, a blog helping promote live music performances held all throughout the Fredericton area. She also writes as Tourism Fredericton’s Night-Life Correspondent, appears on CBC Radio Fredericton as a Live Music Columnist, and helps organize and arrange musical performance in the city.

Sleepy Driver’s CD Release party for Sugar Skull runs Friday and Saturday night at the Charlotte St Arts Centre. Each night features a different line-up of great artists.

Did you know that voting has started up and you can vote for your favourite show? Did you know I’m not going to say any biased statements that you should vote for RFYL? Of course you did. So go vote!

Fundrive 2017 under way!

Posted on 2017-11-15 by encaf1 Posted in fundrive, Special Events

It’s time once again for the annual Fundrive, where we humbly ask you, the listening and reading public, to support our efforts here at the radio station.

You can visit our donation page to see the full details of ways to donate, but here’s the rundown on a couple of things you can be involved with:

  • Crowdfunding on IndieGoGo! We’re doing an ultra-short campaign — just one week! — and your donations can get you really cool perks, from t-shirts, hoodies, and even a reminder on our Wall of Awesome Donors (name still being worked out…).
  • Online Art Auction! A number of the volunteers and staff have put together some cool, hand-made, one-of-a-kind art which you can own! Take a piece of CHSR-related passion home!
  • 12-Hour Radiothon! We’ve gathered together a crew of different show hosts to do an all-day live show! It starts at 10am and ends at 10pm, with shifts every couple of hours. Tune in on November 18 and hear shout-outs and special programs!
  • Of course, you can always tune in to your favourite shows and listen to their reasons why you should support the station. What’s more, if you donate and let us know which show is your favourite, we’re planning some sort of prize for the show or host with the most donations. So, show your support, give them a warm, fuzzy feeling and maybe even a prize!

Radiothon 2017

What will happen? No idea.. But it will feature many of your favourite hosts, mixing it up to give you something special.

Schedule in progress:

The Lunchbox Interview: Peter Hicks (Sleepy Driver)

Posted on 2017-11-15 by encaf1 Posted in The Lunchbox

Sometimes it’s the music and not the weather which gives you a delightful shiver..

My guest today is Peter Hicks from the band Sleepy Driver. Their latest album, Sugar Skull, continues their tradition of story-laden roots rock with memorable and slightly disturbing lyrics. Peter joins me to talk about how this album emerged from the ongoing elements present in each of their albums, while growing into its own size.

Sleepy Driver is holding a grand party for their album release, with two nights of performances with many of their friends and collaborators. Visit the Charlotte Street Arts Centre for the shows on Friday, November 24 and Saturday, November 25.
