Training takes place by appointment only – drop by on the weekdays between 11am and 5pm or call (506) 452-6173 to speak with the Program Director about signing up to be a member and arranging training.

Training is generally available during three possible timeslots per weekday: 11am, 1pm or 3pm. Slots might not be available due to other commitments or events. Other times, such as evenings or weekends, can be arranged in special cases. We aim to be flexible, to work around the busy schedules of students and community members.

Training usually takes at least two sessions. The first session (T1) takes approximately an hour, and covers the structure of the station, the rules of broadcast and the responsibilities that each member has toward the station. The second session (T2) covers a hands-on technical training, giving volunteers a chance to get comfortable with the basic equipment and process of making radio, and can take as little as 15 minutes or as much time as the volunteer needs. Additional training sessions can cover the use of other equipment or further practice.

All members require training before they can go on air. Many volunteers start out as guests on other shows, allowing them a great opportunity to see how an experienced host manages the operations of a show without all the pressures of doing it themselves right away.

There are plenty of additional opportunities to get involved with the station without going on the air. These include:

• music review; (we get approximately 20-30 new albums every week!);
• audio production (station IDs, promos, public service announcements (PSAs), live music session recording, drama production);
• event setup (live concerts, on-site remote broadcasting);
• writing (audio drama, advertising, promotions, web site).
