The Lunchbox 2021-03-23: Theatre UNB’s TomorrowLove

Posted on 2021-03-23 by encaf1 Posted in CHSR News, The Lunchbox

Feature:

  • I love theatre. This should be no surprise to anyone who’s heard me before, and it is one of my joys to help celebrate the theatre done within this city. One of the people who loves theatre as much (probably more!) than me, and who certainly contributes greatly to our strong theatre scene is Len Falkenstein. While his official title is “Director of Drama at UNB”, I have dubbed him “Grand Poobah of Theatre in Fredericton”. He joins me along with student actor-directors Emily Darling and Chris Rogers in the first of two interviews about Theatre UNB’s upcoming production massive of TomorrowLove. The 15 (!) plays of this “play cycle” are being staged in two bundles starting on March 31.
  • Continuing to celebrate and highlight women artists for the month, I decided to play the song I’m Not A Machine by female-fronted band Bloody Diamonds and follow it up with the fun Jacqueline from Moncton-based trio Les Hay Babies.
  • The UNB Art Centre continues to release interviews that shine a spotlight on some of the women artists featured in the UNB Permanent Collection. This week: Ann Manuel.
  • The NB Film Co-op’s Online Intro Workshops continue tonight with “Decisions, Decisions: in the Edit Suite” at 7pm tonight.
  • UNB offers numerous courses about art and culture in its Leisure Learning series. Register early to get a 15% savings on the already-affordable course costs. See the full list of courses on their website.

The Lunchbox 2021-03-09: Maddy MacNab, Jesse Brown

Posted on 2021-03-09 by encaf1 Posted in CHSR News, The Lunchbox

Feature:

  • Since it’s International Women’s Month, I’m celebrating this week with interviews I’ve had the pleasure of having with outstanding women. Today, it’s a 2015 interview with Maddy Macnab about Passages Canada, a program to bring stories of cultural identity from everyday Canadians to the forefront. And in 2017 I caught up with Jesse Brown to ask her about her latest album (Keeping Appearances) and talk about making a video. We also hear two songs from that album: Deep Down Below and Debt.

In addition, perhaps the first time I had a chance in 2015 to talk with Imelda Perley, the UNB Elder-in-Residence, who talked about recognizing and dealing with the trauma of Residential Schools.
  • In addition, I paired it with the song Avocado by Kylie Fox.

RFYL Episode – AstralProjectionEP151

Posted on 2021-03-05 by Matt Nightingale Posted in Run For Your Life!

Run For Your Life! – the psychobilly rock show of zombie sharks

And now it’s March. Time is linear! Other jargon about space. Who knows!

On this week’s episode we have a ton of wicked tracks off the back from last week’s episode. We’re keeping it strong and heavy, and are probably going to continue on that trend. If you don’t dig these tracks, I’m shocked you even listen to this show in the first place, but hey, maybe I randomly appealed to you somehow in a previous episode?

Also, send me more stuff. My inbox is already pretty flooded but I always appreciate more suggestions to check out!

Dischordia – The Motorleague
High Road – Motion Device
Fearless / Lower The Wires – Blue Hour Ghosts
Cloud Walker – Cellar Twins
The Ones Below – Osyron
The Divider – Sandveiss
Nemesis / Reach For The Stars – BLACK FATE
