Modular bridge replacing burnt covered bridge
A covered bridge that was destroyed by fire earlier this summer will be replaced by a modular bridge. That announcement was made by Transportation and Infrastructure Minister Claude Williams yesterday (Tuesday). The bridge, located near Hartland, was destroyed by fire on August 13 after a stolen vehicle was parked on the bridge and set on fire. The construction is expected to begin later this month and should be complete by the end of the year. The one lane bridge will cost an estimated $450,000. Residents currently have to take a detour of up to 14.5 kilometres.

Covered bridge in St. Martins damaged
A covered bridge in southern New Brunswick was damaged Tuesday by a transport truck. CBC News is reporting that a truck carrying woodchips caught one of the beams as it was going across the bridge. The bridge has a clearance of four metres. The truck was stuck for approximately 20 minutes. The bridge is one of two in the small community about 40 km east of Saint John. No one was injured.
