The Lunchbox Inteview: Gerry Yaum

Despite the fact that we all see with our eyes, it sometimes take a well-chosen photograph to allow us to really see the world, and the see people. My guests is Gerry Yaum, a life-long amateur photographer, who has for several years been driven to photograph people in places most of might not care to think about. We talk about how he started in photography, what he looks for in pictures, and what his upcoming exhibit might show you, the audience, about the people he’s met.

Gerry Yaum: Documentary Photographs 2013-2022: Families of the Dump/The People Who Live Under the Freeway opens on Friday, October 28 at 5pm at the UNB Art Centre in Memorial Hall, UNB. Gerry will be in attendance to talk about and show his photographs portraying daily life in the slums of Thailand.

The exhibit will be on display until December 15.

The Lunchbox Interview: Lawrence & Holloman

Dramatic writing is often about contrasts, which seems to be at the heart of the new production of Lawrence & Holloman, being presented by students in the UNB Theatre program. I’m joined by Armin Panjwani (Director, Student), Alex McAllister (Lawrence) and Jason McIntyre (Holloman) to talk about the relationship between the two characters, and how they approached this dark comedy.

Lawrence & Holloman has had a delayed start, but now is going to run nightly from Friday, October 28 through Sunday, October 30 at 7:30pm, on the stage at Memorial Hall on UNB Campus.

Run For Your Life! – the psychobilly rock show of zombie sharks
Sometimes you just gotta run – which is exactly what I’m going to do. In reality I’m just shirking responsibilities but hey, that’s important, too. As the wise prophets Tsunami Bomb once said, “Say no to losing all your time”, so being rich in time is all I have.

Anyway, meaning is lost, so enjoy some music and disassociate hard for an hour.

The Lunchbox Interview: Humans and Machines

My guest today is Nadia Francavilla, Musician-in-Residence at UNB, who has once again curated an intriguing and exciting Contemporary Music Festival. This year, the theme is Humans and Machines, an exploration of the impact of technology on humanity.

Our conversation ranges from the threat to the promise of technology for musicians and composers, and some of the ways it has contributed to this year’s festival — including one partially composed using AI!

Humans and Machines features three different concerts, all hosted at UNB’s Memorial Hall:

  • Welcome to the Party! – Friday, October 14, 7:30pm
  • Dirt Road (including a talk by artist Stephen Hutchings) – Saturday, October 15, 7:30pm.
  • Humans and Machines – Sunday, October 16, 7:30pm
